A Rome man was arrested Thursday after he was accused of being paid to fix a car but not doing the work
Larry Stephen Otting Jr., 37, stands charged with felony theft by conversion after he was paid $2,000 by the victim to fix her car.
He left the engine in the back seat of the car at his residence.
He was being held in jail without bond Thursday night.

The Chattooga County Chapter of 4-H recently attended their annual 4-H Junior Conference, at Rock Eagle.
There were more than 700 attendees – and Chattooga County once again placed first in the Northwestern District for collecting pop tabs which is a fundraising event with all proceeds going to the Ronald McDonald House. There are a total of 39 counties in the district.
Caleb Millican, 4-H Extension Associate – wishes to thank all those who helped to make that fundraiser such a tremendous success.
Millican said Chattooga County had 16 attendees, including the Northwestern Junior Board President Lily Thibodeaux & Vice-President Natalie Peterson; a teen leader, Hamp Thomas, who taught four classes on National Youth Science Day; and two adult leaders.
Chattooga County also placed third in the Amazing Race, participants were Brecklyn Brown Gray Beach, Camryn James and Tori Blalock.
Chattooga County 4-H Alumni Matthew Pace, was one of the guest speakers – discussing his Washington,, D.C. Internship through UGA for Senator Johnny Isakson.
A 23-year old Rome has been charged in connection with an armed robbery at a Shorter Avenue business that occurred back in July.
According to arrest warrants at the Floyd County Jail, Ramad Ashad Chatman, allegedly entered Lucky Lotto back on July 9, pointed a handgun and took property belonging to the business.
Chatman is charged with armed robbery and a probation violation.
He turned himself in at the Floyd County Jail Wednesday afternoon.

A Rome man was sentenced to life in prison on rape and sodomy charges.
Forty-two-year-old Chadrick Clark Lewis was found guilty by a Floyd County Superior Court jury two weeks ago on charges of battery, false imprisonment, obstruction of a 911 call and aggravated assault in addition to the rape and sodomy charges.
Judge Jack Niedrach sentenced Lewis on Wednesday.
According to court information and previous reports, Lewis raped and sodomized the woman back in March.
The woman had to receive medical attention for her injuries that included a black eye and a head injury from having her hair pulled.
In a separate case, Judge Tami Colston sentenced a Rome man to 20 years in prison after he was convicted on child molestation.
Dustin Eugene Jacobs, 34, was arrested in May of this year for molesting a child between September 2012 and September 2014.
A bench trial was held earlier this week.

A tragic auto accident Thursday morning claimed the life of a Cherokee County, Alabama man.
A two-vehicle crash involving a Chevy pickup and an 18-wheeler took place around 9:30am on Highway 411, approximately nine miles north of Centre. Davis Clifford Barfield Sr., age 80 of McCord's was fatally injured when his pickup truck was struck by the 18-wheeler as he was pulling from a driveway onto 411.
The big rig was traveling southbound when that collision occurred.
We spoke with the driver and he said he did everything possible to avoid the accident but there was simply no way to stop the 18-wheeler by the time he saw the pickup actually start to pull out – and, at that point he ditched the vehicle – crossing a culvert and crashing into some small trees.
Coroner Jeremy Deaton pronounced Barfield dead at the scene; Deputy Coroner Jeff Walsh, also responded to the location. Barfield had to be extricated from his vehicle by members of the Cherokee County Rescue Squad.
Cherokee EMS, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and the Spring Creek Fire Department also responded.
