This year's "Chattooga County School Teacher of the Year" has been named, and the winner is employed at Chattooga High School – the honor for 2015 goes to Lisa Benson.
All of us here at am1180 Chattooga County Radio, would like to congratulate Ms. Benson on her achievement, being recognized among Chattooga County's outstanding group of highly-qualified educators across the county.
Special mention also goes to those named as finalists at their respective schools.
Mr. Calvin Loveless, age 66, of Summerville, GA died Sunday, October 25, 2015 at Oakview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Loveless was the 6th child born on July 5, 1949 in Summerville, GA to the parents of the late Mr. Grady Edward Loveless, SR and Mrs. Thelma Olivia Adams Loveless Allgood. Calvin was also preceded in death by two brothers, James William Loveless and Larry Loveless; and a sister, Doris Elaine Loveless Johnson. Calvin attended services at the Church of Christ with his Aunt Dorothy O’Donal. He was formerly employed at the Sara Frances Hotel in California. Calvin received his education in the Chattooga County School System. He loved antique cars and was a member of the Bike Club.
Those left to cherish his memory are brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Dorothy Loveless, Johnny Lee Loveless, and Grady and Regina Loveless; sisters, Arbie Della Loveless and Judy Nell Loveless; aunts, Helen Mims, Gladys Mitchell, Wilma Warren, Dorothy O’Donal, Bea (Lee) Victorian, and Lurlene Adams; uncles, George (Doretha) Adams and Joe Barnes; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p. m. on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at Mason Funeral Home with Rev. James Loveless and Minister Bertha Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Summerville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Nephews and flower bearers will be Nieces.
Mr. Loveless will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until the service hour on Saturday. Mason Funeral Home is directing.

A high-speed chase involving a stolen vehicle ended in Rome on Friday afternoon, after law enforcement managed to force the driver to stop near Wax Road in Silver Creek.
According to reports, the driver, 29 year old Benjamin Charles Hobbs of Cedartown, led law enforcement officials on an hour long chase during which he ran numerous stop signs while traveling at a high rate of speed.
Hobbs was arrested and charged with reckless driving, driving on a suspended license, also
driving on the wrong side of the road, three counts of stop sign violations, theft by receiving stolen property and fleeing/attempting to elude a police officer.

It looks as though the old K-Mart building in Ft Payne – will finally have a new tenant early next year.
The Ft Payne Times-Journal is reporting that major retailer Dunham's Sports will be moving in upon completion of the property redevelopment operation going on now.
A projected opening date has yet to be announced.
Reportedly, Dunham's will occupy 50,000 square feet of the 80,000 square feet available in the building, leaving room for two other retailers yet to be named.
Dunham's was founded back in 1937, in Waterford, Michigan – and currently has more than 200 stores across 19 states.
The overall project will be called The Crossings at Ft Payne.

DeKalb County authorities arrested a man on murder charges over the weekend.
According to information posted on the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office website – 46 year old Burlin Richard Pritchett was booked into the DeKalb County Detention Center, shortly after 3:00am Sunday.
He is being held without bond.
We are awaiting additional information from the Sheriff's Office.
According to Floyd County Jail reports, 27 year old Delana Claudette Fowler was arrested on Saturday at around 8:15pm at the intersection of Georgia 53 and Georgia Loop 1, after police found three Tramadol pills a glass smoking pipe with methamphetamine residue still
inside, one syringe, two spoons with drug residue and several small plastic bags.
Fowler has been charged with felony possession of methamphetamine and possession of a Schedule IV drug and misdemeanor possession of drug-related objects and drugs not kept in original container.

Mrs. Cora Lee Hudgins, age 84, of Summerville, GA died Saturday, October 24, 2014, at her home.
Mrs. Hudgins was born July 2, 1931 in Center Post, GA, the daughter of the late Johnny Wooten and Henrietta Powell Wooten. She had previously worked at Trion Hospital and she was a member of the Church of Christ. Other than her parents, Mrs. Hudgins was preceded in death by her husband, Will Hudgins; brothers, Charles L. Wooten, Norace Wooten, Johnnie Wooten; sisters, Edna Johnson, Essie Christopher, Wanda Neal; and Grace Smith.
Mrs. Hudgins is survived by brothers, William Harold Wooten and Ronnie Wooten; a sister, Mary Faye Fields; step-brothers and sisters-in-law, Bennie and Silvia Rawlings, Curtis and Verdell Rawlings, Nillie and Eunice Rawlings; special nephews, James Christopher, Anthony Christopher, Tim Christopher; special nieces, Denita Wiggins, Tammy Neal, Mardella Neal, Tamikia Neal Neal; and a host of other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Friday, October 30, 2015 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop V. T. Hardin officiating. Burial will follow in the Napier Chapel Cemetery.
Mrs. Hudgins will be in state and the family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until the service hour on Friday. Mason Funeral Home is directing.
A number of Northwest Georgia counties saw excellent unemployment numbers for the month of September, with Chattooga County posting a rate of just 5.9%.
Surrounding counties were as follows
Walker County came in at just 5.5% – their lowest rate since March of 2008; Catoosa County was at a flat 5%, while Whitfield County posted a rate of 5.8%.
