One man reported fraudulent charges to his card on September 24th at the Chattooga County Sheriff's Office.
The charges were to the man's Bank of Lafayette MasterCard in Chattooga County. The first charge was at the Trion Walmart on August 31st, then two more charges occurred on September 18th and 19th.
The incident was handed to an Investigator.
One man traveled to the Chattooga County Sheriff's Office on September 25th.
The man arrived to explain to officers that he never received his registration decal through the mail. The man said that he wrote a check for the registration on September 3rd and that it cleared already.
The case is still under investigation.
A woman traveled to the Chattooga County Sheriff's Office to report a theft on September 24th.
The woman said that on September 19th, she noticed that her phone, a Samsung Galaxy Note 3, had been taken from the Summerville Taco Bell around 3:00 pm.
The phone was rented from the Rent-A-Center off of Highway 27.
The case is still under investigation.
On September 24th, a Chattooga County officer traveled to Highway 337 due to a report of fraud.
The victim told the officer that earlier that date, he received a telephone call from someone saying that they were calling from Direct TV and they were working with Dish Network. The victim said that the caller also offered to come install Direct TV and lower his bill the next day. The victim said he became suspicious because the caller asked for him, but their account is in his wife's name.
After contacting the Dish Network office, the victim discovered that they never made a call to their house.
The case is still under investigation.
Chattooga County officers were performing a license and safety checkpoint at the intersection of Mahan Road and Rocky Hollow Road when they noticed a white pickup truck turn around at the intersection and leave while speeding.
The truck crossed the middle yellow line several times into the path of oncoming traffic. One officer saw the patrol's car's speed reach 120 miles per hour while chasing the pickup truck.
The truck was eventually pulled over and the driver was identified as Rickie Butler. Mr. Butler had an odor of alcohol on his person and admitted that he was speeding because he was scared to get caught with alcohol in his vehicle. Mr. Butler also admitted that a beer spilled in the driver's side and an open bottle of vodka was in the passenger's seat.
The officers told Mr. Butler that he was under arrest for DUI, open container in a vehicle, and reckless driving, and implied consent was read to him three times. Mr. Butler refused a breath test and was taken to the Chattooga County Detention Center.
On September 24th, a report of a theft brought a Chattooga County officer to South Walnut Street.
The homeowner told the officer that his red and white sign was missing from his chain link fence in front of his residence. The homeowner also said that he has an identical sign on the driveway gate that was still in place.
The incident is still under investigation.
On Wednesday, September 24th, a Chattooga County officer traveled to Williams Cemetery Road in reference to a burglary.
The homeowner told the officer that she left her home around 4:00 pm and returned around 8:00 pm. When she returned, the front door was open and her DVD player was gone.
The homeowner admitted that she left the front door open after leaving.
The value of the Portable DVD player was over $100.
A Chattooga County officer traveled to Maple Wood Drive after hearing a report of property damage on September 21st.
The officer spoke to the complainant, who reported that someone had struck his car while he was inside his home. The car that hit his car left white paint marks on his own. The complainant did not have any suspects in mind that drove a white car.
A report of a theft brought a Chattooga County officer to a home on Highway 48 on September 20th.
The man that made the report told the officer that one of his tenants had moved out and taken some appliances with him. When the man had rented the tenant the home, the items were in place, but after the tenant left, the items were gone. There were also holes in the dry wall of the home after the tenant left.
The total value of the missing items arrived around $550, while the dry wall repair cost was unknown at the time.
Chattooga County officers were called to a home on Highway 48 after receiving a report of damage to property.
The complainant told one officer that someone had struck a parked vehicle that belonged to him within the last 24 hours. The man also told the officer that he rents out several mobile homes along the road and also has several parked vehicles that he sells parts off of. Because of the consistent business, there is plenty of traffic that travels along the road, so the man did not have any suspects.
A witness did have a suspect in mind, however. The witness had been working inside one of the mobile homes and had heard a bang come from the area of the damaged vehicle. The witness saw the suspect get out of his own vehicle to check the damage to his own vehicle, but not the other. The suspect supposedly lives on the road that the complainant rents homes on.
The officer spoke with the suspect about the incident. The suspect denied every hitting the car, or even driving his own car.
The case is still under investigation.
