Chattooga County officers were brought to Alabama Avenue on July 29th because of a report of animal cruelty.

The complainant told officers that while her brother was incarcerated in the Chattooga County Jail, someone had closed his home while his animals were inside. She had come to the house to tend to the animals, but when she arrived she saw that both the front and back door had been boarded up. 

Once the officers were able to go inside the home, they discovered a small bird and a rabbit in a cage that had been left in the kitchen area. A cat was found dead in the back bathroom of the home as well.

The remaining animals were left with adequate food and drink for the night until the homeowner's sister could find someone to tend for them the next day.

The case is still under investigation. 

A Chattooga County officer pulled over a driver on Tuesday, July 29th after he nearly ran into his patrol car.

The officer was traveling down Highway 48 when a report of a black van crossing lanes dangerously was issued. It did not take long for the officer to find the vehicle. The van crossed the dividing yellow line and nearly hit his patrol car head on.

Once the officer was able to pull the driver over, he was able to smell alcohol coming from the driver, and could see that his eyes were bloodshot. The driver, who was identified as Mr. Barron Lindsay, told the officer that he was on Highway 41 in East Ridge.

Mr. Lindsay had opened his wallet upside down, had to hold onto the side of his vehicle to stand upright, and could not follow directions for his sobriety test. When asked where he was headed, he said that he was going home to Rossville. When the officer mentioned how far away he was from home, Mr. Lindsay said that his brother had given him the wrong directions to his house. 

Mr. Lindsay was placed under arrest for Driving Under the Influence and taken to the Chattooga County Jail. 

A Chattooga County officer was called to Walmart on Friday, July 22nd after a man was caught shoplifting.

A Walmart employee told the officer that she saw the man and had video evidence of him walking into the store with nothing in his hands. The man walked to the sheet aisle and brought a set to the customer service desk to exchange for store credit. The man had to use his driver's license to do so, so the questioning officer was able to identify him as Zachery Black.

Mr. Black was at his home when the officer went to question him. Mr. Black affirmed that he was at Walmart earlier in the day, and admitted to theft when the officer mentioned the video surveillance. Mr. Black turned over the Walmart card, which was valued around $32.

Mr. Black was placed into custody for Theft by Taking and was taken to the Chattooga County Jail. 

On Sunday, July 27th, Chattooga County officers were brought to Cemetery Road in reference to a burglary.

The home on Cemetery Road had been broken into, but not by forced entry. Someone other than the homeowner had used a key to get inside and take several of her belongings.

The homeowner was returning from her church's morning service when she discovered that several bottles of prescription medicine, two guns, and jewelry were missing.

The incident is still under investigation. 

On July 25th, Chattooga County officers traveled to Back Berryton Road to help a woman that became victim of financial fraud.

The woman had been receiving telephone calls. The calls came from a local body shop number that supposedly wanted to update her personal information. The woman said that she did not own a car or have a credit card.

The information regarding the situation was turned over to investigators.  

On Sunday, July 20th, Chattooga County officers were called to Magnolia Ridge Court concerning a reported burglary.

Officers spoke with the homeowners around 10:00 that night. They said that when they came home, they could tell that someone had been there by forced entry. The officers were able to search the house for any intruders. When they confirmed that the house was empty, they noticed that the back door glass was broken.  

The home was in disarray, but the homeowners were still able to account for most of the missing items, which included cash, baseball cards, blank checks, and jewelry.

The incident was turned over to investigators shortly after officers spoke with the homeowners. 

Chattooga County officers were called to a home on Pecan Lane this past Thursday, July 24th due to a domestic dispute.

Mr. Randall Jones and Ms. Tanya Reed began arguing in their home around 10:30 that night when the argument began to turn physical. Mr. Jones told officers that he and Ms. Reed began arguing and he told her to leave him alone. After she refused, he asked her daughter to remove her from the room.

When the daughter was unable to do so, Mr. Jones pushed her out of the room. Ms. Reed then attempted to strike Mr. Jones, and he retaliated by pushing her, which caused Ms. Reed to fall to the floor. She began kicking Mr. Jones and continued arguing, but no more physical attacks occurred.

Mr. Jones and Ms. Reed were placed under arrest for  Disorderly Conduct and transported to the Chattooga County Jail.

Chattooga County officers were brought to a home on Highway 27 this past Thursday, July 24th to assist a man that was receiving harassing calls from an ex-girlfriend.

The man told officers that he had recently blocked her number, but he had been receiving calls from a male recently that wanted to meet him. The man suspected the male caller was his ex-girlfriend's cousin. After several calls, the caller admitted to being her cousin, and began threatening the man.

A report was filed for the case.
