Chattooga County officers spoke with a man this past Wednesday, July 23rd about some harassing phone calls.

The man told officers that a woman has been messaging him through text message and Facebook constantly. The woman accused him of coming to her house and cutting her cat's head off. The man works at a Veterinary clinic and says that he would never hurt an animal.

The man has also told officers that he has already blocked the woman on Facebook and also blocked her number through his wireless carrier. 

On Wednesday, July 23rd, a Chattooga County officer found two men that had outstanding warrants for arrest, and found something else on one man's person.

Two men were walking along Memorial Drive around 9:00 pm while an officer was on patrol. He recognized the men as Andres and Narcisco Hernandez, who had warrants for arrest for Theft by Taking. The officer placed the men under arrest and began patting them down.

After Narsisco Hernandez had been patted down, the officer only found his cell phone. As Andres Hernandez was being pat down, the officer found a lighter and a green leafy substance that appeared to be marijuana. Mr. Hernandez eventually admitted to the substance being marijuana and the two men were transported to the Chattooga County Jail. 

2014 Northwest Georgia Crop Scouting School

This free program offers basic information on crop insect/disease pests and scouting procedures. This program will serve as a review for experienced scouts and producers and as an introduction to cotton/soybean pest monitoring for new scouts. Dr. Phillip Roberts, UGA Professor of Entomology, will speak on the following topics: crop growth and development, pest I.D., damage and scouting procedures, beneficial insects, crop abnormalities and sampling procedures. Following the classroom session, those attending will have the opportunity to scout a nearby field. The crop school will include a sponsored lunch.

Chattooga County officers were called to Cherry Street on July 21st due to a call concerning a burglary and possible drug related items in a home.

 Once officers arrived, they were able to speak with the homeowner. She said that she had recently evicted her son, and had been in the home three days before without seeing any damage done to the home.

The officers were able to take note of several items in the home that were damaged beyond repair, including furniture, mirrors, books, a ceiling fan, and kitchen appliances.

A Chattooga County Investigator responded and found two garbage bags containing miscellaneous items that may have been used to manufacture methamphetamine.

The case is still under investigation. 

On Sunday, July 20th, Chattooga County officers were called to Azalea Drive in reference to suspicious activity and a suspicious vehicle. 

A woman called officers around 7:45 pm because she saw that her neighbor's home was being broken into. An SUV drove up to her neighbor's home and some men went in and outside the house. The woman called her neighbor's home phone to try to find out what might be going on, but got one of the men on the phone saying "She's in the bathroom." He hung up quickly afterwards. The woman then saw three men going into the SUV and speeding away.

The neighbor was returning to her home as officers were arriving as well. She was informed of the situation, and told them that she had left her carport door closed, and her lights off. The door was left open, and lights were on. Upon entering the house, officers noted that there were items thrown on the floor and drawers had been looked through. A window in the back of the home had been damaged.

The homeowner said that the only items she noticed missing were her savings account information and some earrings.

The case is still under investigation. 

Officers were called to Maplewood Drive on Sunday, July 20th because of a domestic problem that had turned physical.

Once Chattooga County officers arrived, they were able to speak with the victim. She told officers that the man that had been there before was Dylan Chaney, and that he left before they arrived. The woman said that she and Mr. Chaney had been arguing, and she told him that she was going to call the police to get him to leave.

The reporting officer noticed several marks on the woman's body, but she said that she received them from playing with her kids earlier that day.

Officers traveled to Mr. Chaney's suspected location, and placed him under arrest for Simple Battery under the Family Violence Act. He was transported to the Chattooga County Jail. 

On Sunday, July 20th, Chattooga County officers were called to Smallen Road due to breaking and entering.

The woman living on Smallen Road called officers after seeing that lights were on and her door was open. Officers arrived ten minutes after she called, and told her to wait outside while they searched the home.

Once officers were inside, they were able to see that the woman's home had been ransacked, and her back window was damaged.

An Investigator arrived on the scene, and the homeowner was asked to note all of the missing items from her home.  

On Sunday, July 20th, a burglary brought Chattooga County officers to a home on Highway 157. 

The homeowners said that when they returned home, they found the gate on their back porch open. They noticed damage on the back door, but it was still locked. Once they were inside, the couple saw that their bedroom door was open. They immediately looked around to see what would be missing.

They discovered that their lock box was missing, which contained jewelry and a .22 caliber pistol. They valued the items around $2150.

The case is still under investigation. 

On Saturday, July 19th, a woman living off of Palm Tree Road called Chattooga County officers due to a robbery.

The homeowner told officers that an intruder had come into her home through her son's bedroom window. She said that her son had not been home because he was out of town with his girlfriend. She noticed that the bedroom window was left open, with a broken window screen left leaning on the window.

After searching the room for missing items, she noted that two fishing poles, an Xbox system, and some clothes had been taken. She suspected that her son's ex-girlfriend was the theif.

The case is still under investigation.
