After taking a year off, the Chickamauga Lions Club is bring back Down Home Days Saturday.
The downtown event starts with breakfast at 7 a.m. Events include live music, lots of food and crafts vendors, a beauty pageant, cruise in, kids zone, etc.
There will also be a Trojan Run 5-K road race through town and the Gordon Lee Mansion will have tours for $5.

Another installment has emerged in the ongoing saga that is becoming the Floyd County School’s Reduction in Force plan.
On behalf of RIF’d Coosa High School Counselor Gilda Day, A petition has been filed to the state board of education’s charter committee, which calls for the elimination of the school system’s charter contract. Also in the litigation, is a plea for the state to overturn the Reduction in Force Plan.
The Floyd County School’s financial motive for laying off 120 employees doesn’t make sense, the petition alleges. In the fiscal year 2014 budget, it claims Superintendent McDaniel didn’t account for over $3 million dollars saved through furlough days, nor could the projected outcomes and budget shortfalls be accurate, as those numbers have not yet been released by the state.
The petition was served to the State Board of Education Charter Committee. The Floyd County School’s alleged charter violation will be discussed informally at a May 8th meeting.
This is the second form of litigation to cross the Floyd County School’s desk from Day. She filed a lawsuit against the system in early April when the schools would not comply with her open records requests before her Fair Dismissal Hearing. The suit was withdrawn and her hearing date postponed to May 10th.
A Charter Communications Field Auditor reported to the Chattooga County Sheriff's Office the theft of services on April 29.
Josh James told deputies that while performing a routine audit on April 27, he discovered that tenants in one apartment had connected a cable line to another apartments cable system to steal cable service. He said he disconnected it and tagged the line concerning cable theft.
James said when he returned to do a follow up he noticed the original lines had been reconnected again to another apartment's cable system. by using crimp-on connecters and an after market splitter. The value of the services stolen is valued at $270.
Another disconnect was performed on April 29 while law enforcement were at the address, and again the lines were tagged. James was advised of Magistrate Court procedures concerning the incident.
Hutcneson Medical Center has run of out of cash and the hospital put out the call for a round of borrowing to cover it's payroll.
Walker County Commissioner Bebe Heiskell signed an agreement with Catoosa County Thursday, to guarantee a 550-dollar note. That's expected to cover hospital operating expenses for about two months.
Georgia Governor Nathan Deal made a surprise stop in Walker County Thursday, signing local legislation to change the makeup of the Hutcheson Medical Center Board.
The plan specifies that Walker County will keep four members on the Hutcheson Board, Catoosa County will gain a member, for a total of four, and Dade County will lost a member for a total of one.
Walker County Commissioner Heiskell said the four-four-one formula is very close to the ratio of population among the three counties that Hutcheson serves. G
Atlanta Braves all-star catcher Brian McCann made his one and only rehab appearance at State Mutual Stadium in Rome on Wednesday night. Both he and the Braves made it count.
Rome defeated Greenville 3-2 in 10 innings thanks to a walk –off homerun by Blake Brown. McCann hit a solo homer of his own last night and had a run-scoring single. The six-time All-Star had three total round-trippers in 14 at-bats with Rome dating back to Friday in Greensboro. Following the game McCann was moved to Triple-A Gwinnett as he continues his rehab from shoulder surgery with the organization’s top minor league affiliate.
Atlanta Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez told Mark Bowman of MLB.com that he expects McCann to return to the majors for the series with the Cincinnati Reds next week, which begins Monday evening.
Rome has been red-hot of late, winning by the final score of 7-4 Thursday to push their streak to seven victories in a row.
Georgia Power issued a release on Thursday saying that the blast at Plant Bowen last month was caused by a worker’s error and not an equipment failure. The company` s internal investigation said that a worker did not comply with procedures nor communicate property. The company added that the employee’s mistake caused a combustible mix of hydrogen and air to get inside a generator.
The investigation is ongoing and the employee has to be disciplined.
An operational and cultural assessment at the plant is currently being conducted.
Currently only half of the plant’s units are producing electricity.
OSHA, which has six months to complete its investigation, is still looking into the blast and has not yet released any findings.
Jennifer Lynn Pass, 49 of Calhoun, was arrested in a courtroom in Calhoun on Thursday following an outburst that lead to her kicking a deputy numerous times. Pass`s husband was in court for five counts of stalking.
Reports said that the events began when the woman started yelling and was told to leave the courtroom. When deputies attempted to remove Pass she began to resist physically. It was then she kicked a deputy numerous times.
She has been charged with obstructing law enforcement officers, a felony.
Two Rome women were arrested this week at the Dollar General on Cave Spring Road on drug charges. Police reports say that Amanda Beth Giles, 28, and Joy Belinda Giles, 48, had meth on them, and Giles had weighing scales and a pipe.
