| Floyd Medical Center has received the Advanced Certification in Palliative Care from The Joint Commission, becoming only the second hospital in Georgia to receive the accreditation.
The certification recognizes hospital inpatient programs that demonstrate exceptional patient and family-centered care and enhance the quality of life for patients with serious illnesses. Palliative Care uses a team approach to care for patients of any age and stage of illness, working to provide relief from their symptoms, which often go beyond physical pain to include stress caused by financial or relational factors. To receive the certification, Floyd passed onsite reviews conducted by palliative care experts who evaluated the programs standards, clinical guidelines and performance measurement activities. The Joint Commission takes several factors into consideration when awarding the certification, including a review of the programs interdisciplinary team, support offered by hospital leadership and communication and coordination of care. By successfully demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commissions standards, Floyd is awarded certification for a two-year period. In doing so, Floyd joins The Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon as the only other hospital in the state to receive the certification |

This Saturday is opening day for the Battlefield Farmers Market at the Walker County Ag Center.
This will be the Farmers Market's Ninth season. It will be open two days each week, Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon and Wednesday from 3-6 p.m.
In addition to locally grown fruits and vegetables, meats and fresh baked goods, the market will have Kid's Day every fourth Saturday.

Lafayette police believe they have solved a recent burglary with the arrest of a juvenile and an 18year old they say was found later in possession of stolen property.
It's reportedly the third time in the past six months that the juvenile suspect has been charged with burglary. He's been taken to the juvenile detention center in Rome, awaiting a hearing.
He's charged with a break-in on Daugherty Street in Lafayette that was reported early Monday morning. The juvenile reportedly knew the victim and is alleged to have pushed in the door when he knew the owner was away from home. Two laptop computers, a cell phone and other items were taken.
The stolen items were recovered from an apartment on West Main Street, later on Monday. Arrested there was 18-year-old Dakota Newberry of a Chamberlain Road address. He is charged with a felony count of receiving stolen property.
Calhoun police detectives have taken an alleged sexual predator into custody on a slew of felony charges relating to crimes against children.
Chief Garry Moss in a prepared statement says Huber H. Ramirez, age 31, was arrested over the weekend at his home. Ramirez faces eight counts of Child Molestation, three counts of Enticing a Child for Indecent Purposes and two counts of Sexual Battery. He also is charged with a single count of Aggravated Sexual Battery.
It has not been revealed by detectives whether more than one victim is involved in the case.
A second man, 30-year-old Alex F. Ramirez, was also arrested and faces charges of Identity Theft and Possession of False Documents.
Each suspect was arrested Friday and remained incarcerated at the Gordon County Jail as of Tuesday morning.
Fire severely damaged a Lafayette home Tuesday night.
The home on Magnolia Street, just outside the city limits was 50 percent involved with fire fighters from Walker County got the call. No injuries were caused by the first, but one fire fighter was injured in a fall at the scene and was transported for treatment.
A shorted microwave oven is the reported cause of the blaze that damaged an estimated 75 percent of the home.

CIRCLE IN ROCK SPRING HAD A COUPLE OF BREAK-INS, WITH AN EXPENSIVE LAPTOP AND BRIEFCASE TAKEN FROM ONE VEHICLE. THERE WERE EIGHT CASES REPORTED IN THE MISSION GLEN SUBDIVISION NEAR ROSSVILLE. AT SHADY COURT IN LAFAYETTE, A CAMERA AND CASH WERE TAKEN FROM A VEHICLE.
INVESTIGATORS SAY IT APPEARS THE CRIMINALS USED A SMALL FLAT-BLADE SCREWDRIVER TO PRY ON THE WINDOWS UNTIL THEY SHATTERED. SOME OF THE VEHICLES WERE UNLOCKED, BUT WINDOWS WERE SHATTERED ANYWAY.
SHERIFF STEVE WILSON SAID THE DEPARTMENT IS MOUNTING INCREASED PATROLS… AND ASKING RESIDENTS TO CALL 9-1-1 IF THEY SEE ANYTHING SUSPICIOUS IN THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD.
