Law enforcement officers are looking for an escaped suspect in drug store burglaries in Northeast Alabama and Dade County Georgia.

A vehicle with suspects inside was stopped on Interstate 59 Friday. Two men were arrested, but a third suspect fled on foot. Officers report a large number of prescription bottles were found in the vehicle/

The missing suspect is described as a black male, six-feet, two inches tall, 270 pounds, dressed in all black clothing. Officers from multiple Alabama agencies are   searched the area with dogs and by helicopter.

The Former Dalton State College professor who was convicted of child molestation was sentenced to serve life in prison.

59-year-old Monte Salyer could be eligible for parole after 30 years in prison. Salyer's attorney said he was not sure if his client would file an appeal.

The three victims' parents testified at the sentencing hearing Friday morning.  

Volunteers turned out on Saturday to help clean up Paradise Garden.

The Paradise Garden foundation had volunteers cleaning up the garden from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Projects consisted of spring cleaning and outdoor art installation.

The turnout for job fairs in the area was low last week as the Georgia Department of Labor attempted to  o help Hays State Prison find new guards.

In Summerville, only four people are said to have applied. At the fair in Lafayette, there reportedly were only 15 applicants. The jobs start at $26,754 a year, with state benefits.

Warden Rick Jacobs told AM1180 on Wednesday that the prison has the minimum number of guards employed right now required by the Department of Corrections.  

Personnel at the Gore Fire department are upset with the news of staffing cuts Redmond EMS, according to its fire chief.

As of today, the Redmond station located at the Gore Fire Hall will no longer be staffed nightly from 10 pm until 10 am.

The reduction in services to the rural citizens of Chattooga County is blamed on Redmond’s monetary losses acquired in the first year of service to the county, according to Fire Chief John King in an email to AM1180.

King says, once again the unincorporated areas seem to be deemed lacking priority to services provided by EMS programs. He said personnel at the fire hall and himself have bent over backwards to provide a partnership with Redmond in an effort to guarantee uninterrupted and timely medical response to the Gore, and Subligna areas.

King said he will be talking to Redmond and Commissioner Jason Winters to see if this will be a permanent or temporary issue. He said no one was informed of the cuts prior to its implementation.
