Juveniles Suspected Of Mailbox Damage

Two juveniles are suspected of damaging a mailbox in Trion on Friday.
 
According to the Sheriff's Department report, a Rose Circle, Trion, mailbox was damaged and neighbors identified three juveniles involved in the incident. One of the suspected juveniles told officers he lives in the area, but he wasn't involved in the incident and didn't touch the mailbox. A second juvenile was located and a complaint was filed. A third juvenile was located but fled. A search for the third juvenile was ongoing when the report was filed. 
 

Shopllifting Charge Levied

A Trion woman was arrested for allegedly shoplifting at Walmart last week. According to the report, 35-year-old Veronica Lynn Pickard, of a Harrell St., Trion, address, is alleged to have taken two items from the shelf in the back of the store and then tried to return the items for a refund at the customer service desk. When she was not given a refund, she allegedly tried to leave the store with the items. The incident reported was captured on video. Pickard was charged with shoplifting and a probation violation.

Summerville Man Arrested In Two Counties In 24 hours

A Trion mans wife bonded him out of the Walker County Jail on Sunday and he was arrested again in Chattooga County a few hours later on drug charges..
 
According to the report by the Chattooga County Sheriff's Office, 21-year-old Patrick Bentley, of an Old Highway 27, Trion,  address. Bentley reportedly drove to work in Lafayette unlicensed earlier that day and had an accident in Walker County. Bentley and his wife apparently had been arguing prior to his going to jail in Walker county and he had some of his belongings packed in his vehicle.
 
Officers were dispatched to the address where Bentley reportedly was unloading his vehicle and, in plain view, saw a clear glass pipe, about six inches long with white powder residue inside it, in the vehicle. The pipe tested positive for methamphetamine, according to the report. 
 
Bentley was charged for possession of drug equipment and possession of methamphetamine.  

Obstruction, Disorderly Conduct Charge

A Chattooga County man is charged with obstruction of officers and disorderly conduct after fleeing from officers and trying to kick out a patrol car window Saturday.
 
At about 3:30 a.m. Saturday, deputies were dispatched to Tron Teloga Road to a domestic in progress. An intoxicated Jason Rogers apparently went into the woods and said he was going to hang himself there. He also allegedly threatened to beat up law enforcement when they arrived. 
 
Rogers reportedly fled from officers once he saw them in the woods and then tripped and fell, and was apprehended. He was taken to the Chattooga County Jail.  

More Check Fraud Reported

Another attempt at scamming local residents through the Secret Shopper program was reported to the Chattooga County Sheriff's Office on March 14.

According to the report, officers were dispatched to National Title Pawn in reference to a fraudulent check. An employee said a woman came into the business wanting to cash the Wachovia Bank check for $1298.30. The employee said she had called to verify the check which  was from the Mystery Secret Shopper program. The customer told deputies she received the check in the mail that day. 

This incident reportedly is one of several fraudulent attempts in the area from the sender of the check to collect money, according to the report. The incident has been turned over to investigators.

Early Morning Fatality On Hwy. 27

An early morning fatality on Highway 27 this morning. According to Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader, one man is dead after a head-on collision just before the Summerville News office. A pick up truck reportedly collided with another vehicle just before 7:20 am this morning, AM1180 will have more information as soon at it is available. 

Severe Weather Expected Monday

 

The threat of severe weather has moved back into Northwest Georgia’s forecast.
 
The National Weather Service is calling for a 90% chance of strong thunderstorms throughout Monday, most likely beginning at 3pm and carrying on into early Tuesday morning. According to a Hazardous Weather Outlook report, Northern Georgia in particular is at risk for more of the severe weather.
