N Ga Attorneys File Motions In Cases Involving FBI Child Task Force

A handful of north Georgia defense attorneys have filed motions in Catoosa County Superior Court this week questioning whether they’ve been given all the evidence in cases involving clients that were arrested during undercover sex sting operations.

The motions, filed by attorneys McCracken Poston, David Dunn, Steve Ellis and Shawn Bible, allege that prosecutors with the district attorney’s office are holding back information by giving “false or incomplete” evidence about the FBI’s Northwest Georgia Crimes Against Children Task Force, specifically instances in which untrained and uncertified civilians may have been allowed to participate in such undercover capacities.

The task force has fallen under intense scrutiny over the past few weeks after it was learned that the operation’s leader, FBI special agent Ken Hillman, allegedly abused his power over the past two years by influencing local officers to look the other way during instances where he was pulled over on suspicion of drinking and driving.

ATV Stolen

A Mahan Road resident reported on Thursday that his all terrain vehicle was stolen from his yard. 
 
According to the Chattooga County Sheriff's Office report, David Arnold said he last saw the 2003 Kawasake Boyou 300CC ATV on Monday. Arnold originally paid $4700 for the ATV. No current value is listed on the report.  The vehicle can be identified by there being no switch and only wires where the switch was. Also the front half of the back seat cover is missing  and  the front tires are slick.

Battlefield Farmers Market Looking for Local Farmers & Vendors for 2013 Season
Tuesday, March 19th at 7:00 PM at the Walker County Agricultural Center located just behind the Civic Center.
Battlefield Farmers Market will be having their annual membership drive, and the meeting is open to new members, long standing members, supporters and volunteers. 
Battlefield Farmers Market members support the areas local economy by growing and selling fresh fruits, vegetables, breads, eggs and grass-fed beef in our area at the Walker County Agricultural Center. 
The market is starting their 9th season Walker County and is always open to new members from the local area. Members are accepted from the following counties: Walker, Dade, Catoosa, Whitfield, Gordon, Floyd and Chattooga in Georgia; DeKalb and Jackson in Alabama; as well as Marion and Hamilton in Tennessee.
This years’ market is scheduled to open Saturday, May 4th and will run through Nov. 9th for the 2013 season. The market is looking for volunteers to help with events like “Kids Days” on the 4th Saturday each month when the market is open. This will give parents time to shop at our market while their children have a fun place to go to learn, play and be in a safe atmosphere. 
Artisans and artists are also invited to apply to sell their items. Imported items or items to resale are not accepted. Items must be handmade.

Trion Residents Need Yard Sale Permits

Town of Trion residents that plan to have a yard sale this summer must have a permit. Permits must be applied for at least 24 hours prior to the date of the sale.  To apply for a permit call the Town of Trion business office at 734-2332 during regular business hours. According to Mayor Johnny Ingle, yard sales will not be allowed without a permit.

Planned Burn In Walker County Saturday

The U.S. Forestry Service will conduct  a planned burn in Walker County on Saturday. So if you're in the area, don't be surprised if you see or smell smoke.

They say that prescribed burning of woodlands reduces the risk of wildfires and improves habitat for wildlife. The burn is handled by trained foresters and it should be completed by 6 p.m. Saturday.

Surrounding counties including Gordon, Chattooga, Floyd and Whitfield may be impacted by smoke from the prescribed burn.

Mr. Hugh Morgan – (ER)

MR. WAYMON HUGH MORGAN, age 81, of Raymond Street-Summerville, Georgia, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2013, in a Rome hospital. Born in Dekalb County, Alabama on May 9, 1931, He was a son of the late John T. and Vera Tommie Morgan. Mr. Morgan was a member of South Summerville Baptist Church and the Pathway Sunday School Class of the Church. He was a Veteran of Korea serving in the U.S. Air Force, and was a member of V.F.W. Post #6688, American Legion Post #129, and D.A.V. Chapter #49. Mr. Morgan worked for Georgia Rug Mill for 31 years and ITT Lester, in Rome, for 15 years as a dye cast operator; he was preceded in death by his wife the late Goldie F. Stoker Morgan, sisters-the late Frances Seals and Judy Payne.

Surviving are his daughter, Karen Cargle of Armuchee; grandchildren-Christopher Cargle and Stephanie Cargle; sister-Delia Ann Morgan Cory of Acworth, Georgia; special friends-Deanna Evett, and Dennis & Melanie Howard; also his chihuahua’s- Co Co and Mia.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 11th, at 2 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Bryant officiating, interment in Greenhills Memory Garden. Active Pallbearers-Deacons of South Summerville Baptist Church; Honorary Pallbearers-member of the Pathway Sunday School Class. The Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Sunday afternoon from 3 until 5 P.M.

Breaker Box Stolen From Lyerly Church

When they realized there was no  power at the Cedar Springs Baptist Church in Lyerly Monday, church members naturally called the electric company. The problem wasn't that the power had been shut off. The church breaker box had been removed.
 
According to the report, an employee of North Georgia Electric responded to the call that the electricity was off. He reported that when he arrived at the church on  Taliaferro Springs Road, he found that the face of the power meter had been removed and was on the ground. A church member arrived and went inside the church to find that the breaker box was gone.
 
The incident is under investigation.

Scamming Still Going On In County

Another Chattooga County resident has reported that scammers are continuing to harrass residents in the area.
 
On Monday, a Highway 100 man reported to the Chattooga County Sheriff's Office that he received a phone call saying that he had won a sweepstakes and a new car. He was told all he had to do was send a processing fee through Western Union to claim his prize.  The man was told to wire the money to a Kentucky address. 
 
The Chattooga County Sheriff's Office has warned residents that if you haven't entered a sweepstakes or contest, you probably didn't win one. Also, if you do win any sort of prize, having to pay money to receive it, is a pretty much evidence that you are being scammed. Remember, if it's too good to be true, it probably isn't.

Move Clocks Ahead Sunday

The return to Daylight  Time happens this Sunday. Make sure you remember to "spring forward" an hour before retiring Saturday night. It's also a good time to put fresh batteries in smoke detectors.
