A Rome teenager is charged with felony armed robbery in connection with a Jan. 24 holdup on Grove Avenue in Lindale, according to Floyd County Jail reports.

According to the reports:

James Colby Ray, 17, of 2105-A Flannery St., Rome, took $80 in cash from his victim during the robbery. 

The Walker County Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual golf tournament at the Lafayette course on Thursday, April 18.

First, second and third place team prizes will be awarded, along with other tournament contests. The cost is $525 per team of four, or $145 for individual golfers. Early bird discounts are available for those who register before March 23,

Georgia Legislators are set to discuss Tennessee River water again on Monday. The measure, supported by the Governor's office, would drop Georgia's claim to all but a sliver of Tennessee boundary land, in order to access Nickajack Lake. Access would be gained through an unused property owned by the Tennessee Valley Authority. The proposal claims that Georgia would already have had that access, if surveyors had not "missed the mark" in the state line survey in 1818 and had not placed the Georgia line too far to the South. The water starved Atlanta Metro has long wished for a new source, like the Tennessee River. The proposal will be discussed b the House Rules Committee next week.  

The Walker County Sheriff's Office is accepting applicatons for the next Citizens Academy to begin in March. The Citizens Academy will meet each Monday night at 6:30 p.m. at the Ralph Jones Training Center in Linwood. For more information or to get an application, contact Sgt.  Lafayette's Downtown Development Authority has decided to change course on plans for a new Dogwood Festival. Previously announced for April 6 on The Square. Instead, the DDA will combine their arts and crafts plans with this year's Downtown Music Festival on May 18. Also, Lafayette's first Easter Egg Hunt is set for Saturday, March 10, at 11 a.m., at the Joe Stock Park and Chattooga Academy Lawn. Five thousand eggs will be ordered and children up to the age of 12 will be allowed to hunt eggs in different egg categories.

A Rome man who was shot Friday night is recovering after undergoing surgery for his wound at Floyd Medical Center. 

Hospital officials said 42-year-old Joseph McCluskey, of Rome, was in satisfactory condition Saturday  afternoon. 

Rome Police Detective Randy Gore, who will be handling the case, said there were no new leads as of yet. 

The shooting came to light Friday about 7:30 p.m. when the McCluskey collapsed in the parking lot of Rick’s Food Mart at the corner of North Broad Street and North Avenue. A customer saw the man down and told a store clerk, who called 911.

According to officer Joel Stroupe of the Rome Police Department, McCluskey was shot in the abdomen, “probably on North Avenue,” then ran away and passed out in the convenience store parking lot.

McCluskeywas in such pain that he was barely able to communicate with police, Stroupe said.

An Adairsville man was stuck with a syringe he said was in a sealed bag he purchased at the Walmart in Cartersville.

He notified Bartow County Sheriff's Office authorities Wednesday morning, soon after opening the bag of bird seed at his Pleasant Valley Road home, according to the incident report, attached.

The 52-year-old victim said he opened the bag and was stuck by a sharp object, which he later determined was a needle from a syringe. Deputies collected it as evidence, and investigators are looking into the incident.
