A Rome man who was shot Friday night is recovering after undergoing surgery for his wound at Floyd Medical Center. 

Hospital officials said 42-year-old Joseph McCluskey, of Rome, was in satisfactory condition Saturday  afternoon. 

Rome Police Detective Randy Gore, who will be handling the case, said there were no new leads as of yet. 

The shooting came to light Friday about 7:30 p.m. when the McCluskey collapsed in the parking lot of Rick’s Food Mart at the corner of North Broad Street and North Avenue. A customer saw the man down and told a store clerk, who called 911.

According to officer Joel Stroupe of the Rome Police Department, McCluskey was shot in the abdomen, “probably on North Avenue,” then ran away and passed out in the convenience store parking lot.

McCluskeywas in such pain that he was barely able to communicate with police, Stroupe said.

An Adairsville man was stuck with a syringe he said was in a sealed bag he purchased at the Walmart in Cartersville.

He notified Bartow County Sheriff's Office authorities Wednesday morning, soon after opening the bag of bird seed at his Pleasant Valley Road home, according to the incident report, attached.

The 52-year-old victim said he opened the bag and was stuck by a sharp object, which he later determined was a needle from a syringe. Deputies collected it as evidence, and investigators are looking into the incident.

A Chattooga County man is on a hold for Chattooga County authorities in the Floyd County Jail. According to the Floyd County Jail docket, 28-year-old Warren Christopher Thomas, of a Hair Lake Road address, was booked into the Floyd County Jail on Friday. He was arrested by the Chattooga County Sheriff's Department.

Jason Dale Stricklan, of a Lauvorn Road, Cedartown address, was also transferred to the Floyd County Jail by Chattooga County authorities. 38-year-old Stricklan was arrested on Wednesday by the Summerville Police Department on 26 different charges  after leading several law enforcement agencies on a foot chase  through the woods of Bellah Avenue in Summerville.

About a week and a half earler he led Georgia State Troopers on a foot chase off Mahan road according to Sheriff Mark Schrader. He got away that time. 

Steven James Mauldin, of a Laurel Drive, Trion address, was booked into the Floyd County Jail on Thursday. 31-year-old Mauldin was arrested earlier in the week in Chattooga County charged with rape and aggravated sodomy relating to a domestic incident.  

Spring sports is gearing up at Trion High School.

The tennis team began practicing last week the season opens on February 26 at Model High School.

The Lady Dogs soccer team had tryouts on  Jan.28, and will compete in their first game on Feb.14 at home against Sonoraville at 4:30.

The THS baseball team had start tryouts about a week ago and  their first game is scheduled for Feb. 18 at home against Gordon Central at 5 p.m.

The golf team is looking for a winning season this year starting practice on February 4, as the first match against LaFayette and Gordon Lee is scheduled for March 5.

Middle School baseball tryouts are Feb. 11, 12, and 13. First game TBA.

A Hays State Prison is transferring prisoner's out of the facility to other prisons in order to work on the facility.

That's what reliable sources have told AM1180. According to those sources, one thing that will be addressed is the prison's cell door locking mechanisms.

The prison reportedly has begun with the transfer of its most dangerous prisoners. 

Anyone in downtown Summerville about 8 a.m. Thursday morning probably noticed the van and bus going through town.  

The prisoners are taken to the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson then immediately transferred to other facilities.

That's what was taking place on Tuesday when a 19-year-old inmate from Hays Prison  was killed after leaving Hays Prison.

Autopsy reports show that Pippa Hall-Jackson died from a stab wound to the chest. His death was ruled a homicide.

According to information received by AM 1180 Hall-Jackson was killed within minutes after getting off the bus from Hays Prison at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison.  He was killed by another Hays inmate that had been transported.  

The transfer on Thursday is thought to have gone smoothly.  

Lafayette Polce have arrested a man for the molestation of a 6-year-old girl. He is identified as 36-year-old Randy Lamar Alexander, of Lafayette. Ne is charged with one count of child molestation and one count of enticing a child for indecent purposes. He was arrested Thursday morning. The little girl reportedly was exposed to Alexander through his relationship with the girl's mother. Alexander reportedly took a polygraph test and confessed to the molestation. Police began their investigation after the girl told her mother. Alexander was employed at Roper, according to reports.
