In about two minutes Tuesday night the Lyerly Town Council, in a called meeting, unanimously approved a resolution authorizing the execution of the 2013 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax intergovernmental agreement.
Lyerly has many project of the SPLOST list. They include new concession stand, bathrooms and bleachers on the recreation field; sidewalk work, street paving and a community center.
The latest inmate to die at Hays State Prison has been identified. He is Nathaniel Reynolds and had been serving a life sentence for a murder in Fulton county in 1999. Reynolds died at an area hospital after being attacked in the Pennville prison last Friday. The GBI is investigating. Unconfirmed reports indicate Reynolds was stabbed multiple times. He was the third prisoner to die at Hays in the past month.

Two adults died and a toddler in the back seat were injured Saturday afternoon in a crash on I-59 in Dade County. A car reportedly slammed into the back of a tractor-trailer, according to the Georgia State Patrol. Road work on the interstate had traffic backed up and the big rig was stopped when the car crashed into it. Killed were 28-year-old Paul Fetes and 27-year-old Michele Fletes. Their three-year-old daughter is recovering at children's hospital. The 2 p.m. wreck had the interstate closed for hours.
Ringold Attorney McCracken Ken Posten has been elected to the governing board of Common Cause Georgia, a state-wide non-profit, non-partisan citizens' lobby organization. Poston, a former state legislator, authored the "Ethics In Government Act of 1992" for which common Cause gave him an award. Common Cause seeks to make public officials and institutions accountable and responsive to citizens. The organization has more than three thousand members in Georgia.
One person is dead, after a head-on collision in Murray County Sunday.
It happened on McIntire Loop near Highway 225, shortly before 1:30 p.m.
A spokesperson with the Georgia State Patrol tells Channel 3, 43-year-old Larry Ballew crossed the centerline in his Volvo, hitting a Honda Pilot head-on.
Ballew later died at Hamilton Medical Center.
The driver of the Honda, 47-year-old Ronald Wolfe, was flown to Erlanger.
Wolfe's passenger, 72-year-old Brigitte Schulz, was also taken to Hamilton Medical Center.
A Silver Creek woman was arrested after she allegedly shot a man early Sunday morning, according to Floyd County Jail reports and a news release from the Floyd County Police Department.
According to the reports:
Janice Charlene Thornton, 59, of 29 Green Valley Road, S.E., Silver Creek, is charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Floyd County police officers were dispatched to a Silver Creek address shortly before 3 a.m. in reference to the shooting.
One adult male had received gunshot wounds and was transported to Floyd Medical Center. His name had not been released by late Sunday.
Floyd County police did not give further details about the shooting and did not return phone calls seeking more information. Deputy Coroner Ernie Studard said he had not been notified of a death.
Thornton remained in the Floyd County Jail on Sunday evening. Jail records stated she was arrested at 29 Green Valley Road.

There’s nothing scandalous or lewd about it, however. This quirky two-year calendar features the feet and shoes of Romel women who have battled or are battling cancer, and proceeds from sales go to the American Cancer Society.
The idea for the unusual calendar was the brainchild of cancer survivor Beth Erwin.
“Walking down the path of life, we all have different shoes we wear,” she writes on the first page of the calendar. “Some shoes are for running, some shoes are for comfort or support. ….. As survivors, we were given a different path to walk for a while, with a different pair of shoes to wear. Some days we don’t want to even wear our shoes….. I hope this calendar will encourage you each day to keep walking… whatever path you’re on, whatever shoes you wear.”
The 24 women featured in the calendar are all Rome residents and range in age from early 30s to mid 70s. They represent a wide cross section of society. They represent different cancers and they represent different stages of recovery.
“Some of the women have been cancer free for years,” said Ginger Palmer, who along with Kim Dillingham did much of the work to put the calendar together. “Some of the women are battling cancer right now. And one recently lost her battle with cancer.”
The models were told to choose shoes that were special to them in some way, Dillingham said.
Jennifer Almand photographed the women and their shoes, all at downtown locations. The photographs feature women wearing cowboy boots, sexy black pumps, sparkly TOMs, pretty pink flip flops and even some dazzling red heels.
The two-year calendars sell for $20 each and are available for purchase at Coosa Valley Credit Union on Redmond Road, Bryant Motors on Shorter Avenue, Dirt Town Deli on U.S. Hwy 27, Image Makers on Dean Avenue and at Imagine Hair Studio and Art Gallery Lounge on Broad Street.

Police charged a Rockmart Road man with stabbing another man during an incident on Thursday night, according to Floyd County police reports.
According to the reports:
Zachary Anthony Douglas, 4981 Rockmart Road, is accused of stabbing the victim in the shoulder and in the buttock.
He is also accused of shoving the victim off a porch.
The report did not indicate if the person went to the hospital.
Douglas was charged with felony aggravated assault and simple battery.
He remained in jail on Friday night on $1,300 bond.
