MRS. LOIS GREEN, age 92, of Filter Plant Road-Summerville, Georgia passed away Sunday, October 28, 2012, at her residence. A native Chattoogan, She was born to the late Robert Wesley and Mary Eva Brown Dover on January 12, 1920. Mrs. Green was a member of Berryton Baptist Church, retired from the rubberizing department of Georgia Rug Mill, and was preceded in death by her husband the late Leonard Green, sons-Jerry Green, Larry Green, and Ray Green; grandsons-Jay Crider, Duel Bandy, and Joey Green; sisters-Lucille Lindsey and Beulah.
Surviving are daughters-Betty June Bandy of Menlo, Nancy Crider of Summerville, Charlotte Woody of Berryton, and Sadie Croy of Lyerly; several Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, and Great Great Grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 30th, at 2:00 P.M. from the Berryton Baptist Church with Rev. Mickey Skates and Rev. Malcolm Harris officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery; active pallbearers Grandsons. The Family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 6 until 8 P.M.; at other hours Family will be at the residence of a daughter-Charlotte Woody on Filter Plant Road-Summerville, Georgia.

The wife of a former Rome nursing home operator was sentenced to eight months home confinement and five years probation for her role in a health care fraud case.
Rhonda Houser pleaded guilty to misprison of a felony in December. Judge Harold Murphy handed down the sentence in U.S. District Court in Rome on Friday afternoon.
Houser is the wife of George Houser, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison earlier this month for health care fraud and tax charges.
George Houser operated three nursing homes : Moran Lake and Mt. Berry in Rome and Wilwood in Brunswick. He claimed he and his wife were co-equals in using money from Medicaid and Medicare for real estate purchases and personal expenses, but prosecutors called George Houser "the mastermind" behind the scheme.
In handing down his sentence, Murphy said, "I am convinced this defendant would not be here if she had not done the things she did under the influence of Mr, Houser."
Murphy said he didn't include community service in the sentence because he expected she would serve the community anyway based on her "lifetime of community service.
Houser if the mother of two children and the caregiver for her 93-year-old mother-in-law, according to court testimony.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Domestic Violence Awareness Month evolved from the "Day of Unity" in October, 1981 and was conceived by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
The intent was to connect advocates across the nation in working to end violence against women and their children. The Day of Unity soon became an entire week devoted to range of activities conducted at the local, state, and national levels.
In October 1987, the first Domestic Violence Awareness Month was observed. That same year marks the initiation of the first national domestic violence toll-free hotline.
In 1989, the U.S. Congress passed Public Law 101-112 designating October of the year as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
A Summerville landlord reported to the Chattooga County Sheriff's Department that his evicted renters possibly took two air conditioners with them when they moved out. The owner of the Kay Drive, Summerville, residence said the units were there when the couple were in the process of moving but when he returned on Thursday the two window air conditioning units were gone. The air conditoning units are valued at $200.
A mobile home on Lovers Lane in Summerville was reported to have been burglarized and damaged. According to the report by the Chattooga County Sheriff's Department, the vacant mobile home which was in the process of being rented out, had several items damaged and missing. The legs were cut off two tables, a washing machine was disassembled with the frame missing and a wall heater was disassembled with the front grate taken. Items stolen from the residence include a 110 volt window air conditioner, two bar stools, a child's swing set and a large area rug. The window was broken when the air conditioner was taken. According to the report the estimated cost of damage and stolen items are $500. The woman who filed the report was told to see the magistrate judge.
The Veterans Committee of Trion is hosting a ceremony honoring veterans both living and deceased at 1 p.m. Nov. 10. The ceremony will be at the Paul V. Rosser Pavilion, located by the Trion track field. More than 300 crosses and flags will be on display around the track.
In its regular monthly meeting Thursday night the Trion Council approved it's fiscal year 2012 audit. . LLoyd Williamson of Williamson & Co., CPA's Carterville, presented the audit saying the town is doing fine in terms of today's economic climate.
Councilman Lanny Thomas said that the audit shows the town being in good shape and he commended the council and town employees for working to that end. Councilman Mickey McGraw said that the town looks like it's in the best financial shape it's been in, in the past 11 years. He thanked the department heads and council.
In its recommendations the CPA firm recommended that the town close an old bank account it no longer uses. It also recommends that the town purchase fixed asset software to allow the town to properly maintain, update, and keep an accurate history of fixed asset transactions. A final recommendation was made that the town adjust it's balance sheet on a monthly or quarterly basis to prevent year-end adjustments that are normally made at the time of the audit.
In all the audit shows total revenue for fiscal year 2012 at $3,199,019 compared to $2,199,690 in fiscal year 2011; total expenditures of $4,390,364 in 2012 compared to $3,239,335 in 2011. Discrepencies in those figures are due to the demolition expense of the condemned park avenue apartments which had to be shown as a expense, even though 95 percent of the cost came from state and federal grand monies.
The Scarecrow Contest Winners of the first Summerville Scarecrow Contest were announced at Down Home Farm Day Saturday. The contest benefitted the Better Hometown Committee.
Judging took place on September 29. In the Whimsical category Summerville Fire Department took first place; with Oak Hill Methodist Youth group taking second; and Humming Bee placing third.
In the Traditjonal category: Summerville Middle School's "Headless Horseman" placed first; followed by Abby Hosmer's "Cowboy Horse" taking second; and United Community Bank and the Chattooga County DFACS Office placing third.
Go Green/Recycling category winners are: Taylor Ozment first with "Mr Cycle"; Friends of Sloppy Floyd Park, second; and LeRoy Massey Elementary's "Ms. ReRe Cycle" and Laney Barnes' "Renee", third.
The People's Choice Award winner is The Summerville Fire Department's "JB the Retired Fireman."
There were about 22 participating scarecrows in the contest. The Chattooga County Extension office and Better Hometown Committee commends all participants for a job well done.
