Friends of Sloppy Floyd State Parks volunteers contributed 1,050 hours in the last 6 months, bring the total  
for the last six months.  Bringing the total for the just
ended fiscal year to 1,336.  

That according to Kenyon Tribble, Treasurer of Friends of Sloppy Floyd State Park, who says that's a bunch, but we could always use more.
 
Tribble thanks to everyone who volunteered at the Twisted Ankle and to Georgia Power
for their support on their workday, and especially to those who attend 
the monthly meetings and help year round.  Friends members get  volunteer hours credit for 
their own meetings.
 
The Friends of Georgia State Parks and Historical Sites uses
all the Friend's chapters Volunteer Hours to buy the Friends of Georgia 
State Parks passes included in Friend's Membership as well as the discounts Friends 
members receive as part of their membership from the Department of Natural Resources.  
(DNR cannot give the Friends of Georgia State Park and Historical Sites a penny). The 
hours will even pay for the free parking passes on September 29th for "Your State Parks Day" and 
lots more.
 
More importantly, the Friends of Georgia State Parks and Historical 
Sites (the Big Friends)
returns $2 per hour to the individual Friend's group that report the 
hours.  That's money
they can spend on our Park.
 

 The next Friends of Slopp y Floyd State Park meeting is    July 17th at 
6:30 PM at  the  be shelter nearest the Park Office.
 

Two men reported to the Chattooga County Sheriff's Office that they were attacked while on Lyerly Dam Road Thursday night.

 Just after 11 p.m. Harry Farrow of Lyerly, and Christopher DeBerry, of LaFayette, told officers they were walking on Lyerly Dam Road and stopped to pet two horses tied at the bridge. They said they were attacked by three males that they named, who reportedly jumped out of the dark and hit them. Two of the men fled on horseback and another drove away in a black Nissan Xtera.

Both men received minor injuries. 

Chattooga County Sheriff's Deputies Thursday night apparently kept a Spring Creek Road home from being dismantled completely.

According to the report, officers were dispatched to the log home after someone reported seeing a truck with a trailer pull into the driveway of the vacant house.  Upon arriving at the address officers saw a white Ford Ranger truck with a utility trailer attached parked under a carport. The white male inside the the truck jumped out and ran around the side of the house and into the woods.

Officers found tools inside a tool box in the bed of the truck and a riding lawnmower was on the trailer. Upon entering the home, officers found that the kitchen cabinets had been taken off the wall, light fixtures were missing and the railing from the staircase had been removed. A wrecker was called to remove and store the truck and trailer.

A man and woman booked into the Chattooga County Jail Thursday on simple battery chatges.

According to the report by the Chattooga County Sheriff's Department, the only thing Samantha Castro and  Stevie Lingerfelt agreed on is that Lingerfelt let Castro borrow $80 and Lingerfelt's truck broke down. From there the two give completely conflicting stories.  Sheriff's Deputy Gregory Webb in his report indicates that a physical altercation between the two occurred outside Mohawk in Lyerly. Since both showed signs of a physical altercation both Castro and Lingerfelt were arrested and charged. 

The Summerville City Council will meet Monday for its regular monthly meeting.

On the agenda is the creation and authorization of a Public Safety Director position and an agreement for the city to be provided an Americans With Disabilities Act Transition Plan for city facilities; as well as the authorization of secondary water meters for irrigation systems, swimming pools, etc.

The meeting is set for 5 p.m. Monday at Summerville City Hall. 

A Georgia State Trooper may have unwittingly thwarted more criminal activity that what actually took place Thursday when he apparently scared off a man impersonating a police officer in the Gore area.

According to a report filed by the Chattooga County Sheriff's Office,, a Lakeside Ln., resident said she was traveling down Gore Subligna Road between 10 and 10:30 that night when a dark blue or navy vehicle behind her turned on a flashing blue light near Subligna Baptist Church. The woman said she pulled her vehicle over onto the side of the road and the vehicle with the light pulled off behind her.

She said a man got out of the vehicle and started looking around, when she saw a Georgia State Patrol Car pull out of a nearby driveway. The man in the vehicle with the flashing blue light also apparently saw the GSP vehicle and got back inside his vehicle. The woman said at that point she drove back onto the roadway and drove home.

The Sheriff's Department is trying to find the person in the dark blue vehicle who was impersonating a police officer but the woman was unable to much information as to the description of the man or vehicle.  Anyone with any information is asked to call the Chattooga County Sheriff's Department. 

A Trion man has been charged with sexual battery after physically grabbing at an employee at a Trion business.

According to he report by the Chattooga County Sheriff's office, the woman had been working at the B&B Market, Ridgeway Rd., Trion,  for about 3 weeks for Arif Ahmed, who lists the Express Inn, Trion, as his address.  The woman said Ahmed told her he wanted to teach her to use the cash register  and on the way there kept grabbing the woman around the waist and pulling her body up against his. Once at the cash register he reportedly did the same thing. The woman went outside the store and called law enforcement.

The incident was recorded on the store's video cameras.  Ahmed was booked into the Chattooga County Jail charged with sexual battery.

On Tuesday (July 3( a Pecan Orchard Road resident reported to the Chattooga County Sheriff's Department that their lawn mower had been stolen.

Someone apparently had gained entry to Elisha Gaine's backyard through a gate which they had left opened. A front screen door to the home also was open when Gaines arrived home but there were no signs of entry and nothing was missing from the home. A door to a shed at the resident also appeared to have been opened but nothing was stolen from it.
