Mrs. Joyce Elaine Jackson obit

MRS. JOYCE ELAINE JACKSON, age 79, of Harrisburg Road – Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday, July 1st, 2011, at her home. She was born in Denver, Colorado on April 3rd, 1932, a daughter of the late Emile T. and Thelma Madison Gourdin. Mrs. Jackson was a homemaker and a local artist and craft person.

Surviving are her husband Ernest Lee Jackson, daughters Cristy & Danny Blackwell and Elaine & Richard Stowe all of Summerville, a son Jerry & Sue Jackson of Lander, Wyoming , Grandchildren Justin Stowe, Morgan Stowe and Adam Blackwell and Great Grandchildren, Jaxon Stowe, Claire Stowe, Peyton Stanton and Blayke Stanton.

Funeral services are Sunday, July 3rd, at 3:00 P.M. from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with the Rev. Ricky Biddle officiating, interment in Greenhills Memory Garden. Active Pallbearers are Sons In-law and Grandsons. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 –3PM at the funeral home.

Mr. C D “Tiney” Long Jr obit

MR. C. D. “TINEY” LONG, JR., age 67, of Hammond Drive-Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday, July 2, 2011, morning. Born in Cartersville, Georgia on November 16, 1943, He was the son of the late Charles Daniel Long Sr. and Frances Louise Howell Long. Mr. Long was a member of Harrell Street Church of God of Union Assembly and an electrician. He was preceded in death by a son, the late Glenn Hester.

Surviving are wife-Judy Long; daughters-Gevetta Samples, Melissa Hamilton, and Retta Howard all of Summerville; sons-Danny Hester of Trion, Charles Daniel Long, III and LeBron Long both of Summerville; Eleven Grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Earle Rainwater Funeral Home.

 

Mrs. Elizabeth Paulette Collins Obit

Mrs. Elizabeth Paulette Collins, age 61, of Summerville, GA, passed away Friday July 1, 2011 in Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Collins was born November 7, 1949, in Trion, GA, the daughter of the late John K. and Flora Hunter. She was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her husband, Roy J. Collins and a daughter, Rebecca S. Collins.

Survivors include her children, Michael Collins, Bradley Collins, Stacy Cothran, Tammy Thrasher, and Star Bragg; sister, Kathy Moore, 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Collins will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 3, 2011 at Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Ives Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Summerville Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jeff Brown, Richard Brown, Ronnie Reed, Ricky Phillips, Tony Brooks, Eugene Brown, Patrick Strawn, and Jeremy Brown. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bradley Clayton, Rodney Loveless, Levi Ragland, and Glenn Reed.

Mrs. Collins will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. Saturday.

Mrs. Haynie Margaret Wood obit

Mrs. Haynie Margaret Wood, age 83, of Aragon, GA passed away Saturday, June 18, 2011 at her residence.

Mrs. Wood was born April 11, 1928 in Gaylesville, AL, the daughter of the late Ollie Franklin and Ola Bell Allen Ozment. She was a homemaker and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. Mrs. Wood was preceded in death by a son, Charles Acrey.

Survivors include her husband, Naaman Wood; stepsons, Jerry Wood and Randy Wood; sister, Gussie Dodson; grandchild, Tammy Green; and several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a. m. Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Baird and Rev. Ted Towns officiating. Burial will follow in Randell Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Mike Parris, Jimmy Williams, Jim Benfield, James Szymanski, Randy Wood, and Jeremiah Wood.

MS. ANITA KATHERINE CHRISTOPHER – AGE 54, – Of Summerville, GA passed away Monday, June 13, 2011 at her residence. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Odell Christopher and Mrs. Clara Johnson Christopher, and brother Virgil Lee Christopher.

Survivors are two daughters; Murjani Aiesha Ashley, and Kacheri Tempest Ashley; son, Taveras Montinez Christopher of Summerville, GA; two brothers, Mardell (Renee) Christopher of Linden, NJ; Johnny Odell Christopher, Sr. of Summerville, GA; special sister, Mildred Cash; three grandchildren, Tatiyanah Makyla Brown, Kahlayjah Ashley and Kyuna Flowers; sister-in-law, Mae Christopher; uncle, Curtis (Mattie) Christopher; great-aunt, Clara Johnson (Mama Snoopy); nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mr. William Luther Short, age 86, of Lyerly, GA passed away on Monday, June 13, 20011 at Oakview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Short was born June 23, 1924 in Cherokee County, AL, the son of the late William Walter and Hassie Covington Short. He was retired from Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Mill. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Bullard, and a brother, L. C. Short.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Melba Short, Lyerly, GA; special niece, Kathleen Finney; and several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11: a. m. Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Mann officiating. Burial will follow in Lyerly Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Mike Short, Will Short, Tom Bullard, Douglas Bullard, Blake Bullard, and Ken Harrelson. Mrs. Vivian Duvall Warren obit

MRS. VIVIAN DUVALL WARREN, age 88, of Trion, GA passed away Friday morning, (June 10, 2011), in a Rome hospital. Mrs. Warren was born in Floyd County, GA on September 5, 1922, a daughter of the late Arthur S. and Emma Hardeman Duvall and was preceded in death by brothers Harlan G. Duvall and Eugene Duvall, and sisters Bonnie Woods and Elene King. Mrs. Warren was a member of Trion First Baptist Church and was retired from Barwick Mills.

Surviving are two sisters- Lucille Duvall Clark of Rome, and Betty Duvall (James W.) Herndon of Marietta. Three brothers Alvin R. (Helen) Duvall of Cave Spring; Archie J. (Carol) Duvall, Sr. of Rome; Roy Duvall of Rome; Sister-in-law Jo Ann Duvall of Rome.

Funeral services will be Monday, June 13, 2011 at 2 pm from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Aimee McGinnis and Dr. Floyd Robuck officiating, interment in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 3:00 til 5:00 P.M. at Earle Rainwater Funeral Home.

Mr. Barry Gilreath, Sr. obit

Barry Gilreath

Barry Gilreath, Sr., 65, Ringgold, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at his residence. Mr. Gilreath was born in Lafayette, Georgia on March 18th, 1946, son of the late Russell and Mattie Lee Gilreath of Summerville.

Mr. Gilreath was a long-time minister for the church of Christ, and served congregations in the tri-state area. He was the founder of Gospel Broadcasting Network and served as Executive Director until his recent retirement.

Mr. Gilreath had served as band director for several local schools. He was the founder and original director of the Wonderful Word Chorus, and organized various music festivals throughout the years.

He is remembered as a motivator, encourager, and doer of good works. He is loved and missed by all whom he touched throughout the years.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Lenderman Gilreath, son and daughter-in-law, Barry Jr. and Jodi Gilreath of Florence Alabama, daughters and sons-in-law, Leslie and Wayne Weaver and Melissa and Mike Frost of Ringgold, grandchildren, Barry III, Christi, Tyler, Nikki, Hannah and Holly Gilreath; Kayla and Seth Weaver; Alex, Avery and Mallory Frost; great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Kinsley Gilreath; sister, Peggy Cordell of Summerville; mother-in-law, Shirley Lenderman of Summerville and other family members.

Funeral services will be in Dalton, Georgia on Saturday, June 11 at 3 p.m. at Highland church of Christ, where he served as an elder. Minister Jim Dearman, Minister James Andrews, Minister Barry Gilreath Jr., Minister Tyler Gilreath, and Barry Gilreath III will officiate. The body will lie in state at the church beginning at 2 p.m. until the funeral.

Active pallbearers are Wayne and Seth Weaver; Mike Frost, Barry III and Tyler Gilreath; Eugene and Dustin Cordell; Shawn Johnson and Logan Gass. Honorary pallbearers are Highland Church of Christ elders and deacons along with GBN staff.

Burial will be at Woodstation Cemetery in Ringgold.

Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be sent to Gospel Broadcasting Network in Ringgold.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Friday at Heritage Funeral Home and Crematory, Battlefield Parkway.
