Mrs.Margaret Moorhead Obit

Mrs. Margaret Estelle Moorhead, age 85 of LaFayette, Georgia formerly of Athens, Georgia, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2011 at the Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Moorhead was born in Oconee County, Georgia on April 3, 1926, daughter of the late Doctor Grady Thomas and Pallie Estelle Doster Thomas. She was a member of the Bethabara Baptist Church in Statham, Georgia where she was active in many activities during her working years and in the years following her retirement as a Dietician at the Atlanta Metro Hospital. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Moorhead was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Warren Moorhead on November 4, 1996; and her brothers, Lanoise Thomas, LaGrant Thomas, Perry Thomas and Lamar Thomas.
Mrs. Moorhead is survived by a son, Dr. Warren Moorhead, LaFayette; daughters, Carole Walker, Martinsburg, WV, and Mary Ellen Collins, LaFayette; brothers, Gene Thomas, Bogart, Jack Thomas, Statham, GA, and Bill Thomas, Athens, GA; grandchildren, Tim Moorhead, Knoxville, TN and Erin Marie Collins, Boston; great grandchildren, Georgia Anne Moorhead, Claire Roselle Moorhead, and Noelle Alexandra Moorhead; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Moorhead will be conducted Sunday, April 17, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. in the Bethabara Baptist Church in Statham, Georgia with Rev. Rob Bray and Rev. Frank Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethabara Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Roddy Thomas, Donnie Thomas, Jimmy Thomas, Jerry Thomas, Colin Wood, Ricky Thomas, David Thomas, Randy Brock, Barry Mobley and Jerry Wood.
Mrs. Moorhead will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:30 until 7:30 P.M. On Sunday, Mrs. Moorhead will be carried to the Bethabara Baptist Church in Statham, GA to lie in state from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that memorial contributions be made to the Bethabara Baptist Church General or Cemetery Funds, 4651 Monroe Highway, Statham, GA 30666.

CHS upcoming BBQ Benefit

CHS will be hosting a benefit BBQ to fund the fencing around the Track field.  This event will be held on May 7th, from 11am til 2pm, at the High School. 

CHS has a co-sponsor for this event, Modern Woodmen of America Chapter 8466 will be matching all proceeds raised up to $2500.

BBQ Plates will include: BBQ, Potatoes Salad, Baked Beans, and a Roll.

Anthony Ray “Tony” Evans obit

Mr. Anthony Ray "Tony" Evans, age 51, of Summerville, GA, passed away
Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at Floyd Medical Center.
Mr. Evans was born April 28, 1959, in Tawas City, Michigan, the son of Buddy Ray
and Patricia Lynn Ashe Evans. He was employed with Metal Container Ball, Inc.
as a tool & die maker.
Survivors include his wife, Debra Kinsey Evans; sons, Daniel Lee Evans, Adam Ray
Evans; grandchildren, Dillion Evans, Jayden Evans, Dayten Evans, Dawson Evans,
and Addison Evans; parents, Buddy Ray and Patricia Lynn Evans: sister and
brother-in-law, Cynthia Evans Bryant and Anthony Bryant; and a brother, Mark
Alan Evans; nieces and nephews, Stephanie Bryant Herring, Landon Bryant,
Corey Evans, Ashley Evans, Jeremy Brown, Dusty Brown, Chris Butler, and Chad
Butler.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p. m. Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Mason Funeral
Home Chapel with Dr. William Flannagan officiating. Burial will follow in West
Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Landon Bryant, Jeremy Brown, Dusty
Brown, Chris Butler, David Kinsey, and Doug Evans. Honorary pallearer will be
Rodney Lewis.
Mr. Evans will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive
friends from 12:00 noon until the service hour on Saturday.

Ms.Lillie Dendy Obit

Miss Lillie Dendy, age 96, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2011 in Oakview Nursing and Rehab Center where she had been a resident for 16 years.  She was born September 23, 1914 in Berryton, GA daughter of the late Joel Robert and Harriet Gordon Quails Dendy.  She was a member of North Rome Church of God, Rome, GA.  She had lived in Rome for 45 years before returning to Summerville due to ill health.  She was employed with Anchor Rome Cotton Mills many years and retired from Central Supply at Floyd Medical Center.  She was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and did not like to miss a game on television.

She was preceded in death by 4 sisters:  Flora Wesson, Dora Dendy, Arrie Cash, and Mary Thomason; 4 brothers:  Oscar, Daniel, Joe, and Sewell Dendy and a special niece Catherine Stephenson.

Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, great-great nieces  and great-great nephews, great-great-great nieces and great-great-great nephews.  She was affectionately known as "Aunt Widdy" by her special great-great niece, great-great nephews and great-great-great nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, April 3, 2011 at 2:00 pm from the chapel of the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Dr. Jerry Mahan and Minister Tommy Broome officiating.  Interment will follow in the Summerville Cemetery.

Pallbearers are requested to meet at the Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 pm and include Bill Elsberry, Benny Dendy, Sewell Cash, Chuck Petitt, Cass Petitt, Eddie Elsberry, Trent Elsberry, and Bradyn Elsberry.  Honorary Pallbearers will be the staff of Oakview Nursing and Rehab, all Nurses and all CNA"s, Betty Nally, and Dr. Bruce Lee.

At her request no flowers.  Contributions may be made to the Gideons.

A special thank you goes out to the staff of Oakview Nursing Home  for their loving care they gave to her while she was there.  She loved you all.

Aunt Widdy will lie-in-state on Saturday, April 2, 2011 where the family will receive friends from 6 pm until 8 pm.  She will also lie-in-state from 12 noon until the funeral hour at 2 pm on Sunday.

Mrs.Patsy Charlotte Weevie obit

Mrs. Patsy Charlotte Weevie, age 70, of Summerville, GA died Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at
Hutcheson Medical Center.
Mrs. Weevie was born January 29, 1941 in Trion, GA, the daughter of the late Albert and
Fannie Belle Posey Railey. She was a homemaker and a member of the Seven Day Advent.
Other than her parents, Mrs. Weevie was preceded in death by a step-mother, Eunice Railey;
and a son, Joseph Weevie.
Survivors include her husband, Ivan B. Weevie, son, Randy Weevie and Lynn Stark; sister,
Maxine Morgan; nephew and wife, Lonnie and Tonya Smith; and several Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p. m. Friday, March 11, 2011 at Mason Funeral Home with
Dr. Ed Skoretz officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers
will be Lonnie Smith, Jacob Smith, Kenneth Hunter, Alex Cozrig, Bob Naughton, Jerry Miller,
Roy Gary, and Bob Farrow. Honorary pallbearers will be the Nursing Staff of Heritage Health
Care, Tim Ray, and John Payne.
Mrs. Weevie will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from
6:00 until 8:00 p. m. Thursday, March 10, 2011. At other hours the family will be at 471 Back
Penn Road, Summerville.

City of Summerville Council Meeting

City of Summerville March Council Meeting has been postponed to Monday, March 21 at 5pm. due to the city’s Special Called Election.

Any Public Hearings and/or business set for the March 14th Combined Council Session will be carried over to March 21st at the Council Meeting Room at City Hall.

Mrs. Pamela Ruth Pas, age 45, of Summerville, GA, passed away Friday March 4, 2011, at her residence.

Mrs. Pas was born Oct. 1, 1965, in Chattooga County GA, the daughter of Doyle L. Dover and the late Alice Juanita Ramey Dover. She was a member of the North Summerville Baptist Church and preceded in death by a Son, James Michael Rogers, JR, and a Daugther, Tiffany Alison Michelle Rogers.

Survivors include her Father, Doyle L. Dover, Son, Robert Bart (Rob) Pas, JR, Sisters, Cheryl L. Sneed, Teresa D. Lee, Patricia A. Evans, Brothers, Larry E. Dover, Brion Dover, Several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral service will be held 7:00 p.m. Saturday March 5, 2011, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tom Russell officiating.
