James Walter (Jimmy) Duff, Jr

James Walter (Jimmy) Duff, Jr. , passed away at Floyd Medical Center on Tuesday, September 14, following five months of illness.

He was born in Knoxville, TN, on July 30, 1928, the son of the late James A and Anna Bess Duff. He graduated in 1946 from Alcoa High School in Alcoa, TN.  Mr. Duff served in the National Guard during the Korean Conflict.

For over 50 years, Jimmy served the community as owner and operator of Duff’s Flowers and Fifts, selling the business and retiring in 1997.  He was an active member and Deacon of First Presbyterian Church here in Summerville.  A charter member, Mr. Duff was instrumental in the founding of the church in 1982, and the building construction in 1988.

Surviving are sisters, Ada Margaret Duff Elrod of Summerville and Jean Duff Goebel and husband, Wales Goebel of Birmingham, AL; nephews Bill Elrod, Fayetteville, GA; Mike Goebel, Steve Goebel and Stan Goebel of Birming ham; Great nephews Brandon Elrod, Rone, GA; Justin Goebel, Jordan Goebel, Birmingham, AL. and Dallas Goebel, Louisville, KY; great niece, Caitlyn Goebel of Atlanta, GA.

Services wil be held at the First Presbyterian Church, Summerville, at 3:00pm, Friday, September 17.  Officiating will be Rev. Greg King and Rev. Wales Goebel.  Pallbearers will be nephews and great- Nephews, and friend and care-giver Wayne Ashley.  Mr. Duff will be buried in Green Hills Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the services.

CHS Class of ’85 Reunion

The CHS class of ’85 will be having their 25th Reunion on October 23, 2010 at The Reynold’s Barn. The event will begin at 7:00.

Shriners Telathon

Chattooga Shrine Club Telethon to be held Sept 11th and 12th.at the Dandee Denson Auditorum.

This year it is going to be called "The Dandee Denson Shrine Telethon" in memory of Dandee Denson, one of the best Shriners to ever be associated with Yaarba Shrine, or any other Shrine Center in North America. 

This year the weekend will be packed with gospel and bluegrass music and Great food.

The auction will be held on Sun. afternoon from 4 until 6 p.m. 

All proceeds will go to the Shriners Hosptials and the care of local children.

MR. CHARLES LEWIS WOOTEN, SR. – AGE 73, – Of Rocky Hollow Community, Summerville, Georgia passed away Sunday, August 29, 2010. He was a member of West Fifth Street Church Of Christ and a Retired Farmer. He was preceded in death by his parents; Mr. Johnny Wooten and Mrs. Henrietta Wooten, four sisters; two brothers; step son; Mr. Larry Covington, one son; Mr. Robert Wooten, and two grandsons.

Survivors are his wife of Fifty Five years; Mrs. Sarah Covington Wooten, a father of thirteen children; Mr. Bobby (Deana) London, Mrs. Sarah (Jerry) Daniel, Ms. JoAnn Wooten, Mr. Eddie (Onitha) Wooten, Mr. Charles (Mary) Wooten, Jr., Mrs. Charlene (Billy) McMicheal, Mrs. Shirley (Kerry) Price, Mr. Johnny (Merita) Wooten, Ms. Carrie F. Wooten, Mr. Charles Leon Wooten, and Mr. Randy Lewis Wooten, two sisters; Mrs. Cora L. Hudgins and Mrs. Mary Faye (Wilburn) Fields, three brothers; Mr. Charles Carreathers, Mr. William H. Wooten, and Mr. Ronnie (Charlene) Wooten, twenty-four grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives, and friends.

Graveside Services will be held Friday, September 3, 2010 at 1:00 p. m. at the Napier Chapel Cemetery in the Center Post Community, with Pastor Mose Whitfield and Elder Robert Lester officiating. Paula Smith obit

Ms. Paula Jerryl Smith, age 52, of Rome, GA passed Monday, August 30, 2010 at Floyd Medical Center.

Ms. Smith was born December 14, 1957 in Trion, GA, the daughter of Jerry and Betty Johnson. She was a member of Perennial Springs Baptist Church. Ms. Smith was employed with Childrens Health Care of Atlanta. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, J. T. and Bessie Pledger and Chess and Nan Johnson. Ms. Smith was a loving mother and an avid reader.

Survivors include her children, Derek and Shahla Smith, Summerville, GA, Brett Smith, Seattle, WA, Eden Smith, Rome, GA, and Brittany and Eric Parker, Macon, GA; parents, Jerry and Betty Lou Johnson, Summerville, GA; sister, Lynn Pollard, Rome, GA; brother, Dennis Johnson, Menlo, GA; grandchildren, Jessica Barrett, Jayme Barrett, Alia Barrett, Jalyn Smith, Gabriel Smith, Isla Smith, and Giselle Arredondo; and several Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Friday, September 3, 2010 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tommy Pledger officiating. Burial will follow in Perennial Springs Cemetery. Little Miss Maddison Suzanne Shaw, age 1, of Trion, GA passed away Thursday, August 26, 2010 at her residence. Miss Shaw was born September 16, 2008 in Rome, GA, the daughter of Alton "Bubba" and Kayla Shaw.

Survivors include her parents, Alton "Bubba" and Kayla Shaw, brother, Ivan Ethan Tanner Shaw, sister, Serenity Cheyanne Shaw, grandparents, Johnny Padgett and Anita Shaw.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p. m Monday, August 30, 2010 in the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Summerville Cemetery. David D Hartline obit

MR. DAVID DWIGHT HARTLINE, age 41, of Little Egypt Road-Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday (August 26, 2010) evening in Dalton, Georgia. Born in Jackson, Mississippi on March 26, 1969; he was a building contractor. Mr. Hartline was preceded in death by grandparents-Willie Luther Smith and Hattie Mae Smith.

Surviving are mother-Ann Hartline of Summerville; father-Jimmie Hartline ; daughter-Lashea Cline of Summerville; sons-Timothy Blalock of Dalton and Jefferson Hartline of Bay City, Texas; grandmother-Gladys Hartline of Summerville; brothers-Jimmy Hartline of Colorado, John Hartline of Tennessee, and Jeromie Hartline of Acworth; four Grandchildren.

Graveside service Monday (August 30th) at 11:00 A.M. in the West Hill Cemetary with Minister Hugh Glaze officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 10 A.M. until service time at the Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers Family request contributions for funeral expenses.

Frances Bardsdale Henry Brumbelow obit

Mrs. Frances Barksdale Henry Brumbelow, age 92 of Summerville, GA went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 23, 2010.  Mrs. Brumblelow was born August 17, 1918 in Chattoooga County, GA.  She was retired from Riegel Textile Corporation, was an employee and member of the Senior Citizens, and was a member of the Mountain View Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her Husband, L.D. "Doke" Barksdale; mother, Ruby Watson; sister, Sarah Durham and Neal Brown; and sons-in-law, Pete Farmer, Robert Milam, and John "Bud" Haygood.

Survivors include her children, Juanita Farmer of AL, Charles and Gail Barksdale of Trion, GA, Joyce Haygood of Trion, GA, Sandra and Jr. Ivey of Summerville, GA. Bellie Milam of Trion, GA, Lamar Barksdale of California, Jackle and Donna Barksdale of Trion, GA; daughter-in-law, Ann Barksdale of Trion, GA; and brother-in-law, E. J. Brown; 21 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will beconducted Thursday, August 26, 2010 at 1pm from the Mountain View Baptist Church with Rev. Kevin Norton and Rev. Greg Ledford officating.  Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetary.

Mrs. Brumbelow will lie- in-state Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at the Erwin- Petitt Funeral Home where  the family will receive family and friends from 7 til 9pm.  Mrs. Brumbelow will also lie-in-state at the Mountain View Baptist Church on Thursday from 12 to 1pm.

Pallbearers will be J.J. Ivey, Dewayne Green, Gerald Haygood, Keith Haygood, Chris Milam, and Mark Elkins.  Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of the Mountain View Baptist Church.

Rhonda Louise Petitt Wells

Mrs. Rhonda Louise Petitt Wells, age 58 of Mahan Rd, Summerville, GA passed away Friday, August 20, 2010 at Floyd Medical Center.  Mrs. Wells was born January 9, 1952 in Trion, GA.  Mrs. Wells was a Lab and X-Ray Manager for Dr. Joseph Herren and Dr. Greg Rogers at Rome Internal Medicine in Rome, GA for the last 32 years.  She was a member of the 1970 graduating class of Chattooga High School and a graduate of the Atlanta Medical and Dental and Chattanooga State.  Mrs. Wells was a member of the New Antioch Baptist Church.

Mrs. Wells was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra Sue Petitt.

Mrs. Well is survived by her husband, Larry Wells of Summerville, GA; daughters and son-in-law, Yvette and Jason Houck of Winter Park, FL and Daera Wells of Summerville, GA; father and mother, Durward and Ruby Petitt of Summerville, GA; brother, Dana Petitt of Summerville, GA; Sister, Renia Miller of Summerville, GA; grandchildren, Cassey Wells, Pryce Houck, Tyler Eliam, Graden Houck, and Nickolas Eliam; serveral nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, August 23, 2010 at 1:00pm from the chapel of the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold Helton and Rev. Waydell Howell officiating.  Music will be by Waymon Blansit and Wanda Bain. Interment will follow in the Summerville Cemetary.

Mrs. Wells will lie-in-state Saturday, August 21, 2010 and Sunday, August 22, 2010 at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9pm both nights.

Pallbearers will be James Hughes, Freddie Hughes, Donald Blackwell, Randy Thompson, Dennis Lindsey, and Jason Houck.  Honorary Pallbearers will be the staff of Rome Internal Medicine.
