In the weekly Tuesday cattle sale at the Ft Payne Stockyard yesterday, receipts were 465 head.

 

Good and Choice Feeder Bull and Steer Calves weighing 200 to 300 pounds brought $1.60 to $1.90. 300 to 400 pounds brought $1.45 to $1.67400 to 500 pounds brought $1.26 to $1.50. 500 to 600 pounds brought $1.18 to $1.45. 600 to 800 pounds brought  90 cents to $1.23.

Mrs. Mary Majors Humphrey, Obit (M)

Mrs. Mary Majors Humphrey, age 67, of Summerville, GA, died Tuesday, January 31, 2017, at her residence.
Mrs. Humphrey was born February 11, 1949, in Trion, GA, daughter of the late William Edward and Carrie Bryson Majors.  She was a member of the North Summerville Baptist Church, and prior to her retirement, was a self-employed bookkeeper.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Mac Majors.
Mrs. Humphrey is survived by her husband, Jackie Humphrey; daughter, Renae Humphrey Martin; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lee and Maxine Majors, Steve and Donna Majors, and Mary Majors; sister and brothers-in-law, Ann and Bobby Bishop, Wayne Humphrey, and Benny Humphrey; grandchildren, Rachel Martin and Ryan Martin.
Funeral services for Mrs. Humphrey will be held at 3:00 P.M. Friday, February 3, 2017, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tom Russell and Rev. Stanley Smith officiating.  Entombment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum.  Active pallbearers will be Ryan Martin, Wayne Humphrey, Benny Humphrey, Allan Lonas, David Hall, and David Langston.  Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Heyman Hospice and close friends and neighbors.
Mrs. Humphrey will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday, February 2, 2017.

Mr. William Roger Ware, Updated Obit (Willis)

MR. WILLIAM ROGER WARE – Age 80, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Floyd Medical Center. He was born August 27, 1936 in Cedartown, Georgia to the late George and Edna Woods Ware, Sr. For many years he was employed at Butler Farms Supply Store and his own Lawn Care Service. He was preceded in death by six sisters, Inez Kirby, Lillie Mae Ware, Clara Fleetwood, Carrie Williams, Marie Darden, Ruby Smith and one brother, George Ware, Jr.


He is survived by one sister, Mary Ware, of Summerville, Georgia; a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

 

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at New Hope U. M. C. located 309 Martin Street, Summerville, Georgia with Pastor Robert Barrett and other ministers officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service.  Arrangements by Willis Funeral Home, Inc., Dalton, Georgia.

Title I Will Be Joining CHS For Rising Freshmen Night

February 9th @ 6:00pm at the Chattooga High School
Title I will be joining CHS for Rising Freshmen Night. Title I will be providing a Freshmen/Parent Survival Folder. At 6:30 we will be reviewing the Title I Parent Survey to make revisions on the upcoming 2017 Parent Survey. Light Refreshments will be provided.

Miss Charlene Powell, Obit (M)

Miss Charlene Powell, age 82, of Menlo, GA, died Thursday, January 19, 2017, at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Miss Powell was born October 13, 1934, in Chattooga County, GA, daughter of the late Charlie Jackson Powell and Vennice Beatrice Morris Powell.  She was a member of the Menlo Faith Baptist Church, and prior to her retirement, served for 33 years as Librarian with the Chattooga County Library System.
Miss Powell is survived by her brothers, Wayne Powell; sisters, Bobbie McRae and Joy Ledford; and several nieces and nephews.
Services for Miss Powell will be held privately.
Mason Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Miss Charlene Powell who died on Thursday. 

Mrs. Edith Virginia Jones Hayes, Obit (ER)

MRS. EDITH VIRGINIA JONES HAYES, age 86, of Dawsonville, Georgia, formerly of Trion, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2017, evening at her residence.  She was born in Trion on January 6, 1931, a daughter of the late Sherllie and Willie Mae Marshall Jones.  Mrs. Hayes is a graduate of Trion High School, a member of the Bice Memorial Baptist Church, and was retired executive reservations specialist for Eastern Airlines. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late James Alec Hayes on June 16, 2000.

Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Sherry Hayes and David Richardson; son, James M. Hayes all of Dawsonville; granddaughter & spouse, Shannon and David Mayer; great grandchildren Chloe and Lawson Mayer; sister-in-law, Faye Jones; brothers-in-law, Shorty Hawkins and Billy Hayes.

Visitation will be Monday, January 23rd, from 1 until 3 P.M. at Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with burial to follow in Trion Cemetery with Dr. Warren Morehead officiating.

Ms. Margaret Ruth Dentmon, Obit (M)

Ms. Margaret Ruth Dentmon, age 87, of Gaylesville, AL, died Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at her daughter’s residence.
Ms. Dentmon was born December 18, 1929, in Trion, GA, daughter of the late Elliott Judson and Nettie Bryson Huggins.  She was a member of the Dry Valley Baptist Church, and prior to her retirement, was employed with Best Manufacturing.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers and sister-in-law, Pete Huggins, Bob and Jean Huggins; sisters, Lois Johnson, Vinnie Jackson, Peggy Hall, and Nell Craig; and son-in-law, Glenn Hughes.
Ms. Dentmon is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Gail Hughes, Sheliah Dentmon, and Wanda and Aubrey Galloway; grandchildren, Butch and Pam Clark, Daniel and Lacey Hunter, David and Jill Spears, April and Noah Fellers, Jeff Bridges, Sheryl and Ben Norton, Jamie Patterson, Samantha Swartwood, Mollie Mathis, and Brandon Galloway; and a number of great-grandchildren that brought much joy, light, and encouragement to her, especially during the last years of her life.
Funeral services for Ms. Dentmon will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, January 21, 2017, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ken Shelton and Chaplain Joel Williams officiating.  Private interment will follow in the family cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Aubrey Galloway, Daniel Hunter, Jeff Bridges, Randy Spears, Glenn Trapp, and Ricky Huggins.  Honorary pallbearers will be Butch Clark, Graeson Hunter, Landon Williams, Jaxon Mathis, Tyler Spears, Dalton Bonanno, and Blake Bonanno.
Ms. Dentmon will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. until the hour of service on Saturday.
