Howard Loander Glass, Obit (M)

Mr. Howard Loander Glass passed away on April 12, 2024 at the age of 101.

Mr. Glass was preceded in death by his loving wife, Frances “Louise” Crawford Glass, over 29 years ago. He was also preceded in death by seven siblings; his son, David Eugene Glass; and his grandsons David Eugene Glass, Jr. and his twin.

Mr. Glass is survived by his daughter, Elaine Miller (Vern); his sons, Monroe Glass and Douglas Glass (Kristine); his daughter-in-law, Sherry Glass; his grandchildren, Sylvia Cox (Ralph), Cathy Peterson (Brent), Sarah Ball (Russell “Bobby”), Jerry Lee Hilton, Jr., Erin Weaver (Justin), Shannon Lumley (Chris), Ann Gruber (Dewayne) and Rebecca Sparks (Brian); 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Glass was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Following his time in the military, he worked in various roles at Mt. Vernon Mills for over 60 years until the age of 87, when he reluctantly retired for the last time. While he loved his work, nothing made him more proud than his family and to see his grandchildren grow up.

He was a charter member of Trion United Methodist Church, and while no longer able to attend, he continued to feel a part as he received his weekly newsletter up until his passing. He enjoyed gardening and the Atlanta Braves, and he was passionate about encouraging others to “get a good education.” Recently, his most favorite thing was his weekly outings to Pick O Deli and Walmart with his granddaughter, Sarah.

The family would like to thank the staff of Seven Hills Square for their care of Mr. Glass in recent years.

A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, April 18, at 2:00 pm, at Mason Funeral Home in Summerville, GA, with Dewayne Gruber officiating. Interment will follow the service at West Hill Cemetery in Trion, GA.
