David Andrew Brown, Obit (M)

Mr. David Andrew Brown, age 80, of Summerville, GA, passed away Monday, April 10, 2023, at his residence.

Mr. Brown was born May 3, 1942, in the Silver Hill Community, son of the late Joe Washington Brown and Flossie Eunice Holloway Brown. He was a member of United By Faith Baptist Church and was a self-employed painter and carpenter.
Mr. Brown loved working with wood and building doll houses, bird houses, and bird feeders.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Brown was preceded in death by a son, Robbie Brown; daughter, Joanna Hope Brown; brothers, Emmett Brown, Theoda Brown; and a sister, Mildred Barlow.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Janice Parris Brown; sons, Alex (Lisa) Brown, Brandon Brown, Joshua Holloway; daughters, Marie (Richie) Smith, Jennifer (Tommy) Middleton, and Meagan (Justin) Hughes; brothers, Virgle (Annie) Brown, Frank Brown; sisters, Margaret “Monk” (Leon) Craig, Dean (Vernon) Ponder; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, April 14, 2023, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Barry Brown and Dr. Charles Bishop officiating. Interment will follow at Summerville Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Joe Craig, Jamie Ponder, Sam Brown, Mark Brown, T.J. Middleton, and Drew Middleton. Honorary pallbearers will be Harve Culberson, Jason Costlow, Joe Costlow, and Josh Holloway.

Mr. Brown will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. until the hour of service on Friday.

Wanda Maxine Campbell, Obit (M)

Ms. Wanda Maxine Campbell, age 80, of Rome, GA, died Sunday, April 9, 2023, at her niece’s residence.

Mrs. Campbell was born January 27, 1943, in Summerville, GA, daughter of the late James Woodrow Campbell and Jewell Lucille Jones Campbell. She was Baptist by faith, and prior to her retirement, was employed with Consolidated Pipe.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Betty Sue Campbell Tallent, Lois Jean Campbell Holder; nephew, Phillip Holder; and a niece, Babbie Campbell.

Survivors include her niece, Vicky Holder Reece; special great-niece, Sarah Reece; nieces and nephews, Carla Holder Stockburger, Robin Campbell, Diane Tallent Williams, Ricky Campbell, and Ronnie Tallent; and several great and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Friday, April 14, 2023, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Moseley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ricky Campbell, Adam Reece, Caden Reece, Tim Hogg, Heath Hammond, and Nathan Reece.

Ms. Campbell will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of service on Friday.

Kathleen M. Silvers, Obit (ER)

MRS. KATHLEEN M. SILVERS, age 82, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Saturday morning, April 8, 2023. She was born in LaFayette, Georgia on April 12, 1940 to the late Lee and Nellie Hill Corbin. Mrs. Silvers was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and prior to retirement was an operator for Wometco Company. In addition to Parents, She was preceded in death by husband, the late Thomas A. (Tom) Silvers, son, the late Gary Eugene Silvers, granddaughter the late Jaden Mitchell, and Six Siblings.

Surviving are daughter, Tammy (Jamie) Mitchell; sons, Rickey (Brenda) Silvers and Mickey (Marilyn) Silvers; sister, Faye (Ray) Wooten; brother, Floyd Lee Corbin; Ten Grandchildren, Thirteen Great Grandchildren, several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 12th, at 3:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Rickey Biddle and Rev. Kevin Norton officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. Active Pallbearers Derek Mitchell, Nicholas Dooley, Brandon Wooten, Chris Corbin, Chris Harris, and Jamie Mitchell. The Family will receive friends Wednesday from 1 until 3 P.M. at the Funeral Home.

John Louis Shamblin, Obit (M)

Mr. John Louis Shamblin, age 99, of Summerville, GA, died Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at his residence.

Mr. Shamblin was born January 1, 1924, in Menlo, GA, son of the late Phi Burnett Shamblin and Bonnie Marguerite Tate Shamblin. He was a member of Mount Bethel Baptist Church, and prior to his retirement, owned and operated Shamblin Hardware. Mr. Shamblin was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps where he served as a Sergeant in World War II. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Post 6688, the American Legion, and the Chattooga Lodge 704 F.&A.M.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Shamblin was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Jo Cothran Shamblin; a sister, Hazel Reece; and a brother, Hugh Shamblin.

Survivors include his son, Mark (Robin) Shamblin; grandchildren, Sierra (Ruben) Bonilla, Hamilton Shamblin; and 3 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11:00 A.M. (E.S.T.) Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Mount Bethel Cemetery, Broomtown, AL.

There will be no visitation.

Patricia Kay “Patti” Maddux, Obit (M)

Miss Patricia Kay “Patti” Maddux, age 53, of Trion, GA, died Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at her residence.

Miss Maddux was born July 28, 1969, in Rome, GA, daughter of George Graham Maddux, Sr. and the late Kathryn E. Worthy Maddux. She was a member of Trion United Methodist Church. She loved Georgia Football and her cat, Binx. Her grandchildren were her life.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her brother, Frankie Cline; grandmothers, Frances Cleghorn and Kathleen Maddux; and an uncle, Tommy Worthy.

Survivors include her father and step-mother, Graham and Jean Maddux; sons, Colby Dane (Vanessa) Maddux, Christopher Ryan King; daughter, Stephanie (Michael) Richardson; special friend, Allen Brown; brothers, Dave (Linda) Dunwoody, George Maddux, Dennis (Ann) Maddux; sisters, Pam (Ronny) Abernathy, Janet Holbrook (Lance Peevy), and Kaye (Randy) Riddle; grandchildren, Jayci, Bryson, Gunnar, Ace, Rhett, and Riley.

Funeral services for Miss Maddux will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, April 8, 2023, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Hannah, Rev. David Autry, and Colby Dane Maddux officiating. Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be B.J. Eleam, J.T. Maddux, Thomas Maddux, Stacy Evans, Tracy Evans, Ronnie Abernathy, Lance Peevy, and Christopher Ryan King. MR. RICHARD WAYNE “BUD” ANDERSON, age 72, of Simmons Flat Road, Trion, Georgia, passed away Monday morning in a Rome hospital following an extended illness. Born in LaFayette, Georgia on August 25, 1950 to the late Ernie M. and Edna Owensby Anderson. He was a member of the Highland Avenue Baptist Church and before retirement was Supervisor in the Sanding department of Mount Vernon Mills.

Surviving are His wife, Charlotte B. Anderson; daughter, Carrie Anderson; sons, Ricky Anderson and Scotty Anderson; sisters, Gail Wade and Elizabeth (Leon) Williams; brother, Ken (Freda) Anderson; brother-in-law, Stephen Tidmore; grandchild, Preslee Anderson; several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2:30 P.M. from Graveside in Howell Cemetery with Rev. Kevin Jones officiating, Active Pallbearers Scotty Anderson, Keith Gray, Stanley Gray, Daniel Williams, Zachery Anderson, and Ricky Anderson. MR. JOSHUA CODY RATHBUN, age 34, of Summerville, Georgia, Pennville Community, passed away unexpectedly Monday morning. He was born in Melburn, Fla. on January 5, 1989 to Rickie Allen Rathbun and Lisa Joanne Hinchman Rathbun who survive. Mr. Rathbun was Baptist by Faith and an operator for Audia Plastics of LaFayette.

Surviving are His wife, Megan Rathbun; parents, Rickie and Lisa Rathbun; daughter, Avery Grace Rathbun; sons-Noah James Rathbun and Colton Joshua Rathbun; brother, Jason Allen (Heather) Rathbun; nieces, Destiny Rathbun, Addison Ramey, and Caydence Ramey; sister-in-law, Mandi Ramey.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, April 6th, at 1:00 P.M. from Graveside in Summerville Cemetery, with Dr, Charles Bishop officiating. The Family will receive friends Thursday from noon until 1:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home.
