Texas Roadhouse Restaurants In Georgia To Donate Next Monday’s Profits To Appalachee High School

Next Monday, September 23, 2024, all Texas Roadhouse restaurant locations in Georgia will be donating 100% of their proceeds to Apalachee High School.  The restaurant chain confirmed to WZQZ News on Tuesday night that the notice circulating on social media is accurate.  Texas Roadhouse in Rome is open on Monday from 3 PM – 10 PM.

Kemp Signs Executive Order Allowing Colleges To Pay Student Athletes

Yesterday, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signed an executive order that effectively allows the state’s universities and colleges to pay students directly for the use of their name, image and likeness. Kemp’s order specifically prohibits the NCAA or any collegiate athletic conference from punishing Georgia schools for “offering compensation, or compensating an intercollegiate student-athlete for the use of such student-athlete’s NIL.”

Burn Ban Ends At The Last Of September

Every summer, Georgia has a burn ban in place for fifty-four counties, including Chattooga and surrounding counties in Northwest Georgia.  The Georgia EPD says that the ban is necessary to protect air quality in the Atlanta metro area.

Chattooga County Man Sentenced To 30 Years In Prison For Drug Trafficking

A Chattooga County man with a long history of drug arrests was sentenced to thirty years in prison last month in Chattooga County Superior Court.  Larry Joe Dooley, a five-time convicted felon, received the sentence from Superior Court Judge Kristina Cook Graham.  The sentence is to be served with parole.  The Lookout Mountain District Attorney’s office issued the following press release about Dooley’s sentencing yesterday:
