Georgia gas prices declined at the pumps compared to a week ago. Georgians are paying an average price of $3.28 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline (subject to change overnight). Monday’s state average was 5 cents less than a week ago,4 cents less than a month ago, and 38 cents less than this time last year. It costs drivers an average price of $49.20 to fill a 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline. Georgians are paying almost $6.00 less to fill up at the pump compared to a year ago.
A former Chattooga County Sheriffs Deputy was sentenced to serve three years in prison Monday after pleading guilty to violation of oath of office and use of a communications device as part of an attempt to purchase drugs in 2022 while serving as an officer with the Cave Spring Georgia Police Department.

FirstGen Forward, formerly the Center for First-generation Student Success, recently announced Georgia Northwestern Technical College as one of 80 new members of the FirstGen Forward Network for 2024-25.
A bookkeeper’s position is open at Trion Middle School. The school system is looking for someone to perform duties of receptionist, and a bookkeeper and secretary. Applications are being accepted for qualified candidates. Those interested should have a high school diploma and experience in office, clerical, accounting and office management. A forty-eight-year-old man caught the attention of a Chattooga County Deputy in the early morning hours of July 26th coming over Taylor’s Ridge on Highway 27. A deputy noticed the vehicle the man was driving was erratic and the deputy performed a traffic stop. The deputy suspected that John Jesse Fain was under the influence of alcohol. Fain admitted to the deputy that he had consumed “2-3 beers” when questioned. Fain failed several field sobriety tests and refused a blood alcohol test. Fain was arrested for DUI for alcohol and failure to maintain a single lane and was booked into the Chattooga County Jail.
The Chattooga County Agricultural Fair is coming up in a couple of weeks and once again this year, the fair will feature livestock shows and blue ribbon displays daily under the Pavilion. Fair attendees will enjoy thrilling rides and once again this year, there will be a free kids zone featuring a petting zoo, rock climbing wall and mechanical bull. Beginning Friday night, enjoy great nightly entertainment on the Smith Iron Works stage. Students can enjoy free gate admission on Thursday Night sponsored by the City of Summerville. Regular gate admission will be $5 each day of the fair. Ride arm bands will be discounted to $25 on student night and will be $30 for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The 2024 Summerville Chili & Brunswick Stew Cook Off at the Summerville Depot is coming up next month.
The Chattooga High School Class of 1984 is planning a 40th Class Reunion in October. The event will be held at the Chattooga County Agricultural Center, located on Middle School Drive off Highway 100 in Summerville. An invitation is being extended to classmates, faculty and staff who attended or taught at Chattooga High School from 1981 to 1986. The cost is $25 per person and will include finger foods, dinner and door prizes. Class group photos will be taken at an additional cost of $14 for an 8×10.
