A convicted child molester was arrested last week by Chattooga County Sheriff’s Deputies and charged with probation violation and failure to register correctly as a sex offender.  Twenty-one-year-old Dexter Dakota Blackmon was booked into the Chattooga County Jail on the charges and was additionally charged with felony interference with government property.  Blackmon was first convicted of child sex crimes when he was sixteen-years-old after Chattooga County Sheriff’s investigators discovered he had molested several young family members.  Blackmon was tried as an adult due to the heinous nature of the crimes.  Blackmon was sentenced for forty years of probation in connection with the original charges.

The 2024-25 Chattooga High School Marching Indians held band camp Monday, July 8th through July 19th to get ready for this year’s football season.  Chattooga Band Director Gene Greer says the title of this year’s halftime is Journey of Love, featuring the music of 1980s super-group Journey. A thirty-two-year-old man who had been banned from a local gas station was spotted in the parking lot of the gas station by a Summerville Police officer on patrol on Sunday.  The officer noticed Jerry Michael Luallen walking through the parking lot and into the store at Circle K on Commerce Street.  The officer confirmed with Chattooga 911 that Luallen had been trespassed from the store and then went inside and placed Luallen under arrest for criminal trespass and booked him into the Chattooga County Jail.

Summerville’s Dowdy Park will be a participating site from Thursday through Saturday, August 1-3 for the Highway 27 Yard Sale. This event is set to bring many travelers and miles of the best deals and bargains to Summerville. The Highway 27 Yard Sale began in Northwest Georgia in the late ’90s as an alternate route for lost tourists from another yard sale event. It now brings in its own tourists and has expanded past the original route.

While leveraging the same technical process and security protocols as Georgia’s wildly popular and secure OnLine Voter Registration tool, OLVR, this new secure site, allows voters who are moving or opting out of voter registration to notify their county registrar that they want their registration cancelled.
