Heat Advisory In Affect For Today

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City, Georgia has issued a heat advisory for Chattooga County and all of Northwest Georgia for today from 10 AM until 9 PM.  Temperatures are expected to be in the upper 90’s across the area and the heat index could be as high as 108 degrees. Staying  inside in the air conditioning is the best way to beat the heat, but if that is not possibly and you have to be outside, you should drink plenty of fluids and try to stay out of the direct sun.  If you are working outside, you should take frequent breaks and stay hydrated.

Boars Head Lunch Meat Recall

The popular deli meat company Boar’s Head is recalling an additional 7 million pounds of ready-to-eat products made at a Virginia plant as an investigation into a deadly outbreak of listeria food poisoning continues, U.S. Agriculture Department officials said Tuesday.

Summerville Man Reports Fraud To Police

A forty-eight-year-old Summerville man told police this week that someone used his identity to fraudulently obtain a loan from the business software company Quickbooks.  The complainant told an investigator with the Summerville Police Department that someone had used his personal information to obtain a $45,000 loan with the company.  Of that $45,000 the criminal received  $6,500.  A police report was needed to stop further disbursement of funds.

First Day Of School For Trion Tomorrow

Trion City Schools will start class tomorrow, Friday, August 2nd.  In an effort to reduce traffic, on the first day of school and for the first full week of school at dismissal, drivers will only be allowed to turn right when exiting from the front of the hill onto Bill Kinzy Drive.  Those dropping off children for the first day of school are asked to remain in their vehicles and drive slowly.  Also, no handheld devices are allowed by the driver in the school pickup / drop-off line. You may drop your child off at school between 7 AM and 7:50 AM.  Children will be counted tardy after 8 AM.  If you have questions, you should contact Trion City Schools.

Chattooga Emergency Department Has Served More Than 13,000

Atrium Health Floyd’s Chattooga Freestanding Emergency Department has reached another milestone.  The facility, which first opened in October of 2023, has served over 13,000 residents in Northwest Georgia and Northeast Alabama.

Convicted Child Molester Arrested For Probation Violation

A convicted child molester was arrested last week by Chattooga County Sheriff’s Deputies and charged with probation violation and failure to register correctly as a sex offender.  Twenty-one-year-old Dexter Dakota Blackmon was booked into the Chattooga County Jail on the charges and was additionally charged with felony interference with government property.  Blackmon was first convicted of child sex crimes when he was sixteen-years-old after Chattooga County Sheriff’s investigators discovered he had molested several young family members.  Blackmon was tried as an adult due to the heinous nature of the crimes.  Blackmon was sentenced for forty years of probation in connection with the original charges.
