Area high school students received guidance Monday from Atrium Health Floyd’s certified athletic trainers, preparing them to help care for local athletes during the upcoming school year.
Yesterday, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and Vet the Vote announced their partnership encouraging veterans and military families across the state to serve as poll workers. Vet the Vote is a nonprofit initiative that recruits veterans and military family members to serve their communities again as poll workers. As part of the partnership, Secretary Raffensberger and Vet the Vote will host events for veterans and military families in Paulding County and in Muscogee County, on July 16 and 17 respectively.
Summerville, Georgia has the designation as the “Friendship Capital of the World” and coming up one week from this Saturday, on July 27th, the annual Friendship Festival will take place at Dowdy Park in downtown Summerville. The festival will run from 10 AM until 3 PM and will feature kids activities, music, food and craft vendors and the arrival of the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum Steam Passenger Train at the historic Summerville Depot. Leading up to the Friendship Festival, Summerville Main Street is encouraging area residents to take part in Friendship Week activities. Each day will be designated as a way to show friendship in the Friendship Capital of the World.
Two women were arrested on Monday in Summerville after one of the women cursed at a juvenile. According to four witnesses, fifty-one-year-old Michelle Smith was cursing at the male child which caused an altercation with the child’s mother, identified as thirty-two-year-old Tonya Caldwell. According to Summerville Police, Caldwell got into a physical altercation with Smith after Smith was heard cursing the child. Both women were arrested and taken to the Chattooga County Jail on charges of disorderly conduct.
Chattooga Family Connection is preparing to host its Annual Back to School Bash tomorrow. The event will take place from 4 PM – 6 PM inside the main gym at Chattooga High School. This is a fantastic opportunity for families to come together and prepare for the upcoming school year.
An eighty-five-year-old Trion woman was charged after video footage showed her vehicle hitting a pedestrian in the parking lot of Walmart in Trion of last week.

A well known pastor, revival leader and a native of Trion passed away at his home in Attalla, Alabama on Sunday. Rev. Jimmy Bailey pastored in Tennessee and in Summerville early in his ministry, but for the past fifty-seven years, he had been the pastor at Reed Memorial Baptist Church in Attalla.
A parade will be held this evening to honor the 8 and Under Baseball and 8 and Under Softball State Champions. Both teams from the Summerville Recreation Department, along with other teams that had success as the regional and state level will be in the parade that will start at CVS Pharmacy and travel up Commerce Street (Highway 27) to Favor Street, just past O’Reilly Auto Parts. Spectators should line up on the northbound sidewalks between the Summerville Post Office and Jefferson’s Restaurant. Staging for the parade will take place on Economy Street at the old Goody Barn location. Everyone is asked to come out and show support for our local state champion teams. The parade will get underway at 6:30 PM.
