Chattooga Registrars Office Reports 100% Accuracy In Recent Elections

The Chattooga County Registrars Office reports 100% accuracy in both the 2024 General Primary Election and Nonpartisan General Election and the subsequent General Primary Election Runoff. For both audits, teams with the local registrars office hand-counted every ballot cast in each election. For the May election the Supreme Court of Georgia and Chattooga County Coroner races were audited. For the runoff, the US House of Representatives, District 14 and the Chattooga County Coroner race were counted.

Woman Found Ingesting Keyboard Cleaner At Walmart

Chattooga County Sheriff’s deputies recently responded to a call at Walmart in Trion concerning a woman who had fallen and hit her head. Walmart employees believed the woman to be under the influence of drugs. On the scene, deputies talked to witnesses who said that they had seen the woman ingesting computer keyboard cleaner before taking the fall. Deputies found that the woman had a syringe with liquid, later determined to be fentanyl, wrapped in tinfoil inside a t-shirt. Forty-two-year-old Laura Payne Henson was taken to the Chattooga County Emergency Department next to Walmart and was then arrested and charged with theft by shoplifting and possession of schedule II drugs.

Chattooga Young Farmers Women’s Program This Thursday

The Chattooga Young Farmers will host a women’s program at Teloga Springs Farm in Teloga on Thursday, July 11th. Ladies are invited for an evening at Willow’s Flowers at Teloga Springs Farm at 7 PM where they will create flower bouquets and learn about the new flower farm in Chattooga County with local farmer Mandy Hale. The cost is $10 per bouquet and refreshments will be provided. Georgia DOT: Work Near Milepost 306 On I-75 On Tuesday

WHAT: Weather permitting, crews will be performing maintenance along I-75 southbound near milepost 306. The work will close the right southbound lane and the shoulder north of Highway 140 for about a half mile. Motorists should expect delays.

WHEN: Tuesday, July 9 from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

WHERE: The southbound right lane and right shoulder of I-75 will be closed near milepost 306 north of Highway 140.

Trion High School Softball Kiddie Camp

The Trion Softball team will be hosting a Softball Kiddie Camp coming up later this month on July 22nd and 23rd.  The camp will be held rain or shine from 5 PM -7 PM at the J.W. Greenwood Athletic Complex and Trion High School Softball field.  The cost is $30 per camper and includes a T-shirt.  Participants are asked to bring their own water bottle, bat and glove.  Registration is open until July 12th to guarantee a T-shirt.  The camp will focus on the fundamentals of hitting, throwing, pitching, fielding and base running.  Register for the camp HERE Payment will be collected the first day of camp.

Chattooga Registrars Office Warns Of Text Scam

Some area residents have received texts purporting to be from the Chattooga County Registrars Office about their voter registrations.  The texts are scams.  A statement was issued by the local registrars office saying, “The Chattooga County Registrars Office and the Chattooga County Elections Office will never send you a text message regarding your registration status.Our office has been alerted to text messages encouraging the recipient to click a link embedded in the message. These messages are NOT from our office. We are more than happy to check your registration status for you if you call our office at 706-857-0739, stop by our office located at 10017 Commerce Street, or send us an email at chattoogaregistrar@gmail.com. You may also verify your status yourself by visiting the My Voter Page (mvp.sos.ga.gov)”.

Summerville City Council Meeting This Evening

The Summerville City Council will hold their regular meeting for the month of July coming up this evening at Summerville City Hall, located on Georgia Avenue across from Summerville First Baptist Church.  On the agenda, the council will hear about the purchase of $13,684 worth of water meters from Utility Solutions and Automation.  Also, the council will be discussing building inspection fees and approving equipment purchases for the Summerville wastewater treatment plant.  The council will also be asked to approve the purchase of two patrol cars for the Summerville Police Department from Prater Ford in Calhoun.  Also, the council will be looking at modifying the $500 cemetery service fee.  The meeting will get underway at 5 PM and the public is invited to attend.  You can see a complete agenda for this evening’s meeting below:
