The coronavirus has forced Georgia to revisit a 70-year-old law targeting the Ku Klux Klan.
More than 700 households needing help have been identified by the American Red Cross, following Sunday’s storms in Georgia.

Chattooga County got hit hard with a confirmed EF-2 tornado on Easter. That storm started near the Alabama line and crossed over into the Oak Hill Community shortly before 8 PM. Tornado sirens were heard in all four municipalities in the county again shortly before midnight when another strong storm, taking roughly the same path, hit the county. Around 40 houses received severe damage or were destroyed and up to 100 homes were impacted by the storm.
Over five million Americans claimed unemployment last week, according to numbers from the U.S. Department of Labor. In Georgia there has been a sharp increase in unemployment claims as well. In our area, Chattooga County has shown the smallest increase in unemployment – compared to neighboring counties.
Last Saturday, a Chattooga County business owner reported a theft to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office. Ronald Padgett told a responding deputy that several tires and rims were missing from his business and he believed that the theft took place sometime over the past few weeks. Mr. Padgett advised the deputy that he believed a family member might be responsible for the theft. The complainant said that he thinks the family member was looking for quick money to purchase drugs. The incident is under investigation.
The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) is updating its current systems to distribute federal unemployment funds as part of the CARES Act (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security) bringing additional economic relief to many Georgians.
