Secretary of Labor Eugene Scalia issued the following statement regarding Unemployment Insurance claims:
Chattooga County Schools were unable to deliver emergency meals earlier this week to a portion of our bus routes due to an unforeseen food shortage. We are happy to announce that we will be able to deliver to those routes on Friday 12 noon – 1p.m. Again, this delivery is only for the routes that were missed earlier this week and will provide 4 days of breakfasts and lunches. The route includes bus numbers: 97, 71, 73, 79, 83, 94, and 87. The regular schedule will continue each Tuesday for all routes and pickups until further notice.
At one point, over 80% of Chattooga County was without power starting Easter Sunday night and going through Monday. North Georgia EMC reported over 13,000 power outages in their entire service area. Georgia Power had over 45,000 power outages across North Georgia. The widespread power outages lasted into Tuesday for many Chattooga County residents. By Tuesday night, there were still several hundred people without power across the county.

Summerville Police were called to a Tyler Street residence on Tuesday of this week due to a report of someone entering a garage. The responding officer spoke with the victim who said that he found a canned drink, cigarette butts and a camping stove inside the garage. The complainant showed the officer where someone had gained entry into the garage by pushing on the roll-up door. The complainant gave the officer the name of a family member that he suspected might be the one who had broken into the garage. Summerville Police are investigating the break-in.

Word came this week the Chattooga County historian, Robert “Bob” Baker passed away at his home near Atlanta. Mr. Baker’s book, Chattooga: The Story of a County and Its People, is considered the definitive history of our county.
