Voters in Trion overwhelmingly approved a liquor by the drink referendum on Tuesday of this week.  But Trion Mayor Lanny Thomas says it will take some time before any restaurants inside the town limits will be able to serve alcohol.  According to the mayor, the town attorney will need to amend the towns ordinances and then those changes will have to come before and be approved by the Trion Town Council before any licenses can be issued.  On Tuesday, 119 voters voted in favor of the measure, with just 42 people opposed.  There was one ballot that was left blank, according to Trion Town officials.

A thirty-two-year-old Rome man was arrested by the Rome Police Department on Wednesday for battery charges. According to Floyd County Jail Records, Brandon Lewis McGlotha of a 15^th street address allegedly provoked and then attacked a victim at a residence on Spring Creek Road. A child was present during the attack to witness the incident. McGlotha is being charged with third-degree cruelty to children, and simple battery (family violence).

It fell on November 11th because that is the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. However, in 1954, the holiday was changed to “Veterans Day” in order to account for all veterans in all wars.

For the first time in two weeks, Chattooga County reported a new COVID-19 case, according to numbers released from the Georgia Department of Public Health on Wednesday of this week.  Earlier this year, the Department of Public Health went to a weekly reporting system instead of a daily reporting system.  There were 101 deaths reported across the state last week.  In addition, there were 3,693 new cases of COVID-19.  There were fourteen COVID-19 patients in Rome area hospitals last week.

Local law enforcement welcomed visitors from the Israeli Police Departments on Wednesday as part of the Georgia International Law Enforcement Exchange program (GILEE).

Summerville Police responded to a call from a complainant after he discovered someone had broken into his storage unit on Oil Mill Road.  The complainant told a responding deputy that someone from A&C Storage had called him to inform him that the lock had been cut off his storage unit.  Jeffery White told the responding officer that he had not been to the unit since before Labor Day and was made aware of the theft on Wednesday of this week.   A long list of tools were stolen from the unit.  The incident had been turned over to an investigator.

A thirty-three-year-old Rome man was booked into the Floyd County Jail on Tuesday for burglary charges. According to Floyd County Jail Records, Samuel Lewis Burger of a Cleveland Avenue address allegedly used a pry bar to break into a laundry mat on Shorter Avenue and stole $4,000 worth of quarters. The incident happened back on October 29^th of this year. Jail reports stated that Burger was also wanted for a theft that occurred back in August as well. Burger is being charged with two counts of second-degree burglary and theft by receiving stolen property.
