The Georgia Department of Education has partnered with the National Center for School Crisis and Bereavement to provide training in grief support. The center is working with a handful of school districts around the country, including Chattooga County.

A sixty-eight-year-old Rome woman was arrested by the Floyd County Police Department after an incident that occurred at a residence on Etowah Drive on Friday. According to Floyd County Jail Records, Brenda Joe Garland allegedly was being questioned by police after being drunk in public when Garland allegedly punched an officer in the face, while also kicking another. Garland is being charged with 2 counts of simple battery against a police officer, 2 felony counts of obstruction, and public drunkenness.
Summerville Main Street is planning a Victorian Christmas celebration the first weekend in December. There will be a Christmas Market on East Washington Street, with food, retail sales and crafts. The Christmas Market will be from 11 AM -5 PM. Then, on Sunday, December 4th from 12:30 PM – 4 PM, there will be a Live Nativity and Christmas Caroling in downtown Summerville along with contests and kids games. Jeff Cook, a founding member of the Fort Payne-based group ALABAMA, passed away on Monday, November 7. He was 73. According to the band’s publicity firm, Cook died at his beach home in Destin, Fla. “with his family and close friends by his side.”
A twenty-one-year-old Oak Hill-Alpine Road, Summerville man was arrested over the weekend and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
