The Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call on Yarbrough Road in Summerville from a woman who claimed her ex had cut a spark plug wire. The responding deputy asked if the woman had a video or any proof of the incident. The complainant said that she didn’t have any proof, but didn’t know of anyone else who would have wanted to do it. The responding deputy advised the woman of Magistrate Court proceedings.
The Chattanooga Area Food Bank broke ground at the expansion of the food bank’s distribution center on South Hamilton Street in Dalton this week. The area food bank provides assistance to local food banks across Northwest Georgia – including Chattooga County.
The Chattooga High School Class of 1980 is planning their 42nd reunion. The reunion will be held at The Tavern in Trion coming up on November 12th. Those wishing to attend should contact Susan Reece, Sheryl Brooks or Tammy Norton. The cost is $30 and must be paid in advance.

Last Saturday, a deputy responded to a call on Pinedale Drive in Trion regarding damage to a GMC pickup truck. Once on the scene, the deputy spoke with the complainant, Tialaissa Edna Holmes, who identified two juveniles that had damaged her 1989 GMC pickup. Ms. Holmes said that the youths had busted the windshield, all of the mirrors and damaged the front hood. There were also holes in the door of the vehicle. The report didn’t indicate how the juveniles damaged the truck, but the two suspects did admit to doing the damage when asked by the responding deputy – in front of their parents. The complainant said that she was going to try to work out payment for damage with the juveniles’ parents, but wanted a report on file about the incident.
Rome Police are considering homicide charges against an unidentified woman in connection with a vehicle fatality that happened on Sunday morning. Rome Police say that thirty-three-year-old Milton Omar Medina, formerly of Honduras, was in his van when he was forced off the road by a vehicle driven by his girlfriend. Medina’s vehicle crashed into a tree and exploded, according to the Floyd County Coroner’s office. Medina was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has been sent to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy. Rome Police say that they are working the case as a “potential homicide”.
AT&T reported a theft of copper wiring to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office last week. According to a report released on Tuesday of this week, Christopher Wood with AT&T reported that someone had cut through a chain-link fence at the AT&T cell phone tower off Butler Dairy Road and stolen an undisclosed amount of copper wiring. It is believed that thefts occurred in March as well as this past month at the site. The incident was turned over to an investigator.
