The Trion Town Council met on Monday evening in a special called meeting and passed the 2022 millage rate. It was approved unanimously and will remain the same as 2021.

The Chattooga County Registrar Office on Commerce Street will be open today for those who have not yet registered to vote in the November General Election. Today is the last day to register to vote. The registrar office is located just south of the Chattooga County Courthouse at 10017 Commerce Street. The registrar office was closed yesterday for Columbus Day and is reopening today at 8:30 AM. If you have questions about voter registration, you can contact the Chattooga County Registrar Office at 706-857-0739. You can also register to vote online by visiting the secretary of state’s My Voter Page.

Summerville Police are investigating a stolen bicycle. The theft was reported on Sunday and took place on Oak Street. According to a report released on Monday, the complainant said that someone came into their yard the night before and took a “purple and cream” colored, girls bicycle. The complainant caught the thief on video surveillance. The complainant said that he had no idea who the thief was. The incident and the video have been turned over to an investigator with the Summerville Police Department.

A Walker County man lost his life in a traffic crash on Friday of last week on Highway 27 between Trion and LaFayette in the southern end of Walker County.

The Georgia Department of Transportation says that they are working on improving downtown Summerville’s drainage issues, but the process is not a quick one.

On Thursday of last week, Summerville Police responded to a call about a damaged flower pot that belongs to the city in front of the Summerville Post Office. A witness reported seeing a blue pickup truck with a camper shell striking the flower pot and damaging it. According to the city, the cost of the flower pot was $300.00.

Georgia gas prices increased at the pump compared to a week ago. Georgia drivers are now paying an average price of $3.22 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline (subject to change overnight). Monday’s state average was 5 cents more than a week ago, 6 cents less than a month ago, and 17 cents more than this time last year.

The Chattooga County Friends of the Library will be having a book sale coming up this Thursday through Saturday. The Friends of the Library will have over 300 DVD’s for sale and plenty of books on CD as well. The hours for the book sale are 10 AM – 6 PM on Thursday and Friday and 10 AM until noon on Saturday.
