This year, there will be a fun Halloween event for kids  happening on Halloween night.   The City of Menlo has announced a “Halloween Walk in the Park” starting at 5 PM on Monday, October 31st.  The event will take place at Lawrence Park and all children are welcome to dress up in their costumes and come enjoy the fun.  Prizes will be given for the most creative, cutest, overall best, most colorful and the scariest costumes.  Stan Rosser will be on hand selling BBQ at the park as well.  The City of Menlo is inviting the whole family to come and enjoy Halloween at the park in Menlo.

Summerville and Chattooga County residents affected by the Labor Day Weekend Flood are still waiting to find out if there will be any federal funds to assist with the cost of the cleanup and repairs from the flooding in September.

Students in the Chattooga County School System are on fall break this week.  The last day of class was on Friday and Students will return on Tuesday, October 18th.  Trion City School students are out today as well after having fall break last week.  Today is a teacher work day for Trion and Trion students will return to class tomorrow.

A North Carolina couple were arrested and booked into the Cherokee County, Alabama jail last week after Centre Police investigated a case of transmitting obscene images to a minor.

Another store has closed at Mount Berry Mall in Rome.  The popular Bath & Body Works at the mall closed for good as of Saturday of last week. The store is not leaving Rome – they will be opening a new location at the Riverbend Shopping Center and will be located between Michael’s and Game Stop.  The move will be made in time for the Holiday shopping season.  Bath & Body Works is planning to open at their new location on October 29, 2022. An exodus of businesses has been happening for the past few years at the mall located in Rome.

The Trion Fire Department responded to a call at Akery’s Resale store in Trion on Friday of last week.  According to a post on social media from the Trion Fire Department, smoke was coming from the store when firefighters arrived.  An electric stove inside the business was the cause.  The firefighters were able to quickly take care of the problem and extinguish the fire.  The fire department reported the situation under control at 11:08 AM on Friday.

Summerville Main Street will host a Trains & Tracks Expo at the Historic Summerville Depot on Saturday and Sunday, October 15-16. Hours of operation for the event on Saturday, October 15 will be 10:00 am-3:00 pm and Sunday, October 16 from 11:00 am-3:00pm. Admission is free to the public. The expo is a great way to spend the day whether you’re an avid modeler or just looking for a fun and interesting day out with the family. The Trains & Tracks Expo is designed for children of all ages; for modelers, collectors, and enthusiasts; for families in search of good old-fashioned fun; and for the simply curious.
