Work is progressing on the new building at Menlo Elementary School. It has been one year since the project began in earnest.

The City of Summerville is accepting bids for the mowing of the city’s gas department right of ways. The right of ways are some twenty-nine miles and stretch from Chattooga into Floyd County. Sealed bids are being accepted until 5 PM on Monday, November 14, 2022. Those interested can stop by Summerville City Public Works on Cox Street for a complete bid packet. The deadline to register to vote in the 2022 General Election is coming up next week. The last day to register to vote is Tuesday, October 11th. Early voting will begin on Monday, October 17th. All early voting in Chattooga County will take place at the Chattooga County Registrar Office, located just south of the Chattooga County Courthouse in Summerville. Voters will have several statewide races on the ballot, including governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, attorney general and agricultural commissioner. Also, voters in Chattooga County will be selecting a new school board member to represent the Menlo District on the Chattooga County Board of Education.

A team from Chattooga County will be attending the 2022 Gateway Communities Workshop coming up later this month after the county was named an “Appalachian Gateway Community”

The Chattooga County Land Use Committee has set the dates for the three public meetings. The chairman of the committee Eddy Willingham says that the purpose of the meetings is for public input on how the land use ordinance can be improved.

Lookout Mountain CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) needs volunteers to advocate for the best interest of the abused and neglected children of Catoosa, Dade, Walker and Chattooga counties who are in foster care. Last week a Subligna area resident reported the theft of her pocketbook to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office. According to a report released earlier this week, the complainant told a responding deputy that she woke up last Friday and realized that she had left her pocketbook in her vehicle. When she went to check on the missing pocketbook, she found that it was missing from the vehicle. The complainant said that there was $500 in cash inside the purse and that she had no idea who might have stolen it from her vehicle. The incident was turned over to an investigator.
