Speaker For October Chamber Meeting Announced

The Chattooga County Chamber of Commerce will hold their regular monthly Chamber Luncheon coming up on Tuesday, October 18th at noon at the Chattooga County Civic Center located on Highway 48 in Summerville across from Truist Bank.  The speaker for this month’s meeting will be Michael Betts who is the new Veterans Rep at the Georgia Department of Labor in Lafayette. He is a veteran himself and will talking about the veterans services the state provides veterans in Chattooga County, which is part of his territory.  Those interested in attending should RSVP the Chattooga County Chamber HERE

Chattooga County Concerned Citizens, a group of individuals who are dissatisfied with Chattooga County’s new land use ordinance, will be holding a meeting this evening at the Chattooga County Civic Center in Summerville.

Georgia’s Namesake Ship, USS Georgia, Returns To Kings Bay

The Ohio-class guided-missile submarine USS Georgia (SSGN 729) returned to its homeport of Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Georgia, Sep. 22, for the first time in 790 days.

GNTC Industrial Career Days Coming Up This Month

Northwest Georgia high school students will have an opportunity to speak with representatives of Georgia Northwestern Technical College‘s (GNTC) industrial programs about the benefits of learning a skilled trade during Industrial Career Day on Friday, Oct. 7, at the Whitfield Murray Campus in Dalton. Industrial program directors will be on-hand to discuss their programs and to provide tours of their labs. There will be demonstrations, simulators and hands-on learning activities for the industrial programs offered by GNTC. A second Industrial Career Day will be held on the Floyd County Campus in Rome on Friday, Oct. 28.

Summerville Man Arrested In Floyd County For Stalking

A forty-six-year-old Chattooga County man was arrested for stalking in Floyd County last week.

Quilt Show Coming Up This Weekend In Summerville

The Sequoyah Quilt Show is coming up this Saturday and Sunday, October 8th and 9th at the historic Summerville Depot. Quilts of all ages, colors, patterns, and designs will be on display, along with live quilting demonstrations. The show will feature antique and rare quilts from Chattooga county. Strip Quilts made in the late 1800’s-early 1900’s from flour sacks will appeal to quilt historians that may attend. T-shirt quilts will also be highlighted. Those interested in exhibiting or selling at this event may contact Summerville Main Street at (706) 859-0900 Ext 1337. Admission is free.

Coosa Valley Fair Starts Today

The 73rd Annual Coosa Valley Fair opens this evening at the Coosa Valley Fair Grounds in Rome at 5 PM.  The fair will run through Saturday of this week.

Georgia Gas Prices Increase Over The Past Week

Georgia gas prices increased at the pump compared to a week ago. Georgia drivers are now paying an average price of $3.17 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline (subject to change overnight). Monday’s state average was 6 cents more than a week ago, 17 cents less than a month ago, and 19 cents more than this time last year.
