A twenty-five-year-old Summerville man was sentenced to eight years in prison for statutory rape. The sentence was handed down in Chattooga County Superior Court. Nathaniel Lee Minard confessed to the crime and admitted that he enticed the twelve-year-old female victim and then took her to a specific location with the intent of raping her.
There were three businesses that applied for a lottery to determine two liquor licenses in the City of Summerville. One of the three dropped out of the lottery and the Summerville City Council approved the other two applications. The winning applications went to Bhavik Patel with BP Services, LLC and the other went to Akshar Golden, LLC. The two liquor stores will be operated on opposite ends of Summerville. Both businesses will be building new buildings – one on Commerce Street across from Advance Auto Parts and the other on Highway 114 adjacent to the Dollar General Store. The businesses must be up and running within a year.
Summerville Police responded to a call about a man harassing a cashier at Ingles Supermarket in Summerville last Saturday. According to a report from the Summerville Police Department, the mother of the cashier called police and said that a man, identified as “Roy”, had been harassing her daughter who works at Ingles. The mother told police that the man had approached her daughter several times and talked to her, and in one encounter, tried to hug her and referred to her as “baby girl”. On Saturday, the man reportedly gave the cashier a note with his phone number, offering her a place to stay. Police spoke with the manager at Ingles, who was aware of the situation. The manager told police that he would be banning the man from coming into Ingles in the future.
Citing Hurricane Ian and the recovery efforts in neighboring Florida and South Carolina, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp extended the suspension of Georgia’s gas tax. Because of the gas tax suspension, Georgia has some of the lowest fuel prices in the nation.
