A twenty-nine-year-old LaFayette woman was indicted by the Chattooga County Grand Jury for child molestation. The Summerville News reported on Thursday that Katherine Nicole Torrence was indicted after evidence was presented to the grand jury that she engaged in sexual acts in front of a minor. The minor repeatedly asked the woman and her boyfriend to stop but the child was ignored, according to the report. The boyfriend involved in the incident with Torrence is facing charges of child molestation as well in a case involving two children that were six years of age.

The City of Menlo wants water customers to know that on Monday, August 22nd the city will be installing a valve in the area of 7th Avenue North and Highway 337. The water will be off during the installation which will be from 9 AM until Noon, weather permitting. .

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to investigate an incident involving Floyd County Clerk of Courts Barbara Penson. Video footage of the longtime elected official shows Ms. Penson striking her cell phone with a hammer on a concrete wall near the Floyd County Courthouse. Ms. Penson then brought the damaged cellphone back inside the courthouse, according to reports. Penson has said that the cell phone belonged to her and was not public property, but admitted that hitting the phone with a hammer at the courthouse was “probably not the right place” to do it. No criminal charges have been filed in connection with the incident. The Floyd County Fire Marshall’s office was contacted about the incident because of “possible toxic exposure” from the damaged cellphone, but to date has not opened an investigation.
