Georgia Power announced Wednesday, a landmark coal ash beneficial use project at Plant Bowen near Cartersville, Georgia, where millions of tons of stored ash will be excavated for use in concrete to construct bridges, roads, and buildings in Georgia – and throughout the Southeast. The project will be the single largest beneficial use project of its kind in the U.S., and the largest ever for Georgia Power.
Earlier this year, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signed legislation that changes who will be eligible for unemployment benefits in the Peach State. The new classification takes affect starting tomorrow, July 1st.

A forty-eight-year-old Armuchee man was arrested in Chattooga County after a traffic stop on Highway 27 after a deputy observed the vehicle he was driving had a headlight out. The 1986 Chevrolet Corvette had no tag and when asked, the man told the deputy that he had just purchased the vehicle. As the deputy was speaking with the driver, he noticed the smell of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle. The driver was found to have marijuana in his pocket and a glass pipe with suspected methamphetamine inside his shoe. Inside the vehicle, deputies found Oxycodone in the driver’s seat and on the floorboard. Brian Ezell was charged with methamphetamine possession and possession of drug related objects.
