North Georgia Employer Forced To Pay Back Wages

 

A Canton tire retailer and auto shop shortchanged 19 workers by withholding first paychecks and paying overtime at rates lower than required, a U.S. Department of Labor investigation has determined.

Trion Golf Course Hosting Trion Cheerleader Benefit

The Trion Golf Course will be hosting the Fourth Annual Trion Cheerleading Golf Tournament.  The tournament is a fundraiser that helps provide money for Trion’s Cheerleading program on July 23.  The tournament will be a four-man scramble starting at 8:30 AM.  Lunch will be provided.  There will be cash prizes for the top teams and raffle items.  There is a registration fee of $200 per team. Alabama Man Charged With Shoplifting In Chattooga County

A forty-six-year-old Gaylesville, Alabama man was arrested and charged with shoplifting over the weekend after he was accused of taking several items from Walmart near Trion.  According to the report from the sheriff’s office, Walmart employees witnessed Derrick Thrift attempt to walk out of the store with several tools and a pellet gun without paying for the items.  Thrift was arrested and charged with shoplifting and booked into the Chattooga County Jail on Sunday.

Turner Street Woman Says Dogs Were Poisoned

A Turner Street, Summerville woman called the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office this week after she said her dogs were poisoned.  Kenzie Howard told the responding deputy that she had checked on her dogs around 8 AM on Monday morning.  Later that day, two of her dogs were dead and one “was actively dying”, according to the report from the sheriff’s office.  The complainant said that she had video surveillance of someone on her front porch earlier that day.  The incident was turned over to an investigator.

Rome Residents Charged With Insurance Fraud

Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced this week that Jessica Church, 41, of Rome, has been arrested for Insurance Fraud, Forgery, Conspiracy, Concealing the Identity of a Vehicle, and Tampering with Evidence. The case also resulted in the arrest of David Dover, 45, of Rome, for Insurance Fraud and Conspiracy.
