A Summerville man reported the theft of copper wiring from a house on Broad Street.  The complainant called police after he discovered someone had entered the home that was being remodeled and had stolen all the copper wiring from the house.  The complainant told the responding officer that he had not been inside the house for two or three weeks prior to discovering the theft. Not only did the thieves take the copper wiring in the house, they also stole the copper wiring from the air conditioning unit and from a generator that was left at the building site.  The complainant estimated it would take over $10,000 to repair the damage and replace the wiring.  The incident was reported on Monday of this week and is currently under investigation by the Summerville Police Department.

A Menlo woman was arrested at Maryland Fried Chicken in Summerville last month according to a report released yesterday by the Summerville Police Department.  Police say that they received a call that a woman was sitting in her vehicle in the parking lot of the chicken restaurant, acting strange.  When police arrived on the scene, they spoke with thirty-four-year-old Casey Wooden.  Wooden told the officer that she waiting on chicken to take home to her family.  Officers notices that Wooden could not sit still while she spoke to them.  The officer then asked Wooden about the smell of marijuana coming from her vehicle.  Wooden denied smoking the marijuana, but said that her husband smoked it.  Officer searched the vehicle and found illegal prescription pills.  Wooden was arrested and charged with possession of barbiturates and drugs not kept in original container and was booked into the Chattooga County Jail.

The City of Menlo wants water customers to know that they will be flushing fire hydrants coming up this Friday, June 3rd from 6 AM until 3 PM.  Menlo water customers may experience low water pressure while the hydrants are being flushed.  If you have any questions, you can contact Menlo City Hall at 706-862-2440.

An 81-year-old Walker County Georgia deputy has been arrested after he raped a woman while on duty, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Walker County Sheriff’s Deputy Jerry Glover, of Rock Spring, was arrested Tuesday for rape, violation of oath of office and false imprisonment. The investigation revealed that Walker had sex with a woman without her consent while he was on the job and wearing his uniform. Anyone with information is asked to contact the GBI at 706-624-1424. Six Chattooga County residents were among several arrested recently on drug charges.   On May 26th, 2022, Agents with the Lookout Mountain Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at 106 Straub Street in Rossville. Agents located approximately five pounds of Methamphetamine and 15 grams of Fentanyl.

Trion Mayor Lanny Thomas issued a statement regarding the announcement that Dixie Specialty Fibers is shuttering their manufacturing facility in the Town of Trion’s Industrial Park.  The mayor said that he realized that the decision to close the facility was a difficult one.  The mayor said that the transition during the closing has been “very smooth”.  The mayor added that Dixie is actively seeking a buyer to purchase the facility.  You can read the full press release from Mayor Thomas below:

The first organized tropical system of the 2022 Atlantic hurricane season could form as soon as Thursday, AccuWeather forecasters said. With the season officially getting underway on Wednesday, meteorologists said there was now a high chance of a depression or tropical storm forming over the warm waters anywhere from Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula to around the Florida Peninsula.
