Georgia DOT Memorial Day Plans

To allow for anticipated increase in Memorial Day weekend traffic congestion, Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) announced today the suspension of lane closures on Georgia interstates and state routes beginning today,  Friday, May 27 at 12 p.m. until 5 a.m. Tuesday, May 31.

Shoplifter Arrested At Bargain Bins

On Monday of this week, a Chattooga County Deputy was dispatched to the Bargain Bins store in Summerville where he met with a store manager who said she caught a woman shoplifting.  The store manager told the responding deputy that she watched the subject stuff “multiple items in her backpack and purse”.  When the deputy asked the suspect why she tried to shoplift $99.41 worth of goods from the bargain bin, the woman told the deputy “I’m going through a tough time.”  The deputy said that he saw the items stuffed in the woman’s purse and backpack. Fifty-one-year-old Veronica Lynn Pickard of LaFayette was charged with shoplifting and was booked into the Chattooga County Jail.

Northwest Georgia Man Charged With Murder In Connection With Arson Fire

Paulding County Detectives, working in conjunction with the Paulding County Fire Department and the State of Georgia Fire Marshal’s Office, arrest Bryan Dwayne Jones (W/M, 51 YOA) for the murder of his mother in relation to a house fire that took place on Friday, April 22, 2022, at approximately 8:26 PM.

“Trion Remembers” Coming Up Tomorrow

The Town of Trion is inviting the public to their Memorial Day celebration to be held tomorrow, Saturday, May 28th at 1 PM at the Trion Veterans Memorial located at 210 Simmons Street in Trion.  The program will include dedication of new pavers that have been added to the Veterans Memorial.  The keynote address will be from Greg Baker, First Sergeant – U.S. Army. Troopers Urge Memorial Day Safety On The Roadways

This year’s Memorial Day holiday travel period will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 27, and end Monday, May 30, at midnight.  The travel period is 78 hours long. Last year, Troopers and local law enforcement investigated 17 fatal traffic crashes resulting in 20 deaths across Georgia during the holiday travel period.
