LaFayette Police stopped a suspected DUI driver following a citizen call from the local grocery store parking lot on North Main.
On Friday, Georgia Governor Brian P. Kemp announced the establishment of a Healthcare Workforce Commission to address challenges in the hiring and retention of healthcare workers, including nurses, physicians, respiratory therapists, emergency medical personnel, and other clinical and non-clinical personnel.
Georgia Highlands College has appointed Jessica Lindberg as the new Dean of Humanities. Lindberg will oversee the School of Humanities, which includes Art, Communication, English, Film, Music, and Spanish.

A head-on collision near Ga 40 in Rome Friday morning resulted in the death of Louann Bean Loggins, 63 of Summerville. Police said that Loggins was struck head-on by a car that crossed the center line on US 27 near GA 140 (5600 block).

Georgia is taking steps to ensure the emerging sustainable development carbon market is open to the state’s forests. A special technical advisory committee has been seated to help build Georgia’s Sustainable Development Carbon Registry. The action will supplement Georgia’s existing voluntary Carbon Registry by tracking the amount of carbon stored in commercial construction projects and also making life cycle assessments to measure all carbon impacts from raw material extraction to the building material’s final disposal. Carbon credits can then be quantified and awarded through the voluntary Registry.
