A Rome man has been charged with the death of his grandmother after locking his injured grandmother in a freezer, while she was still alive.
Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader has confirmed the identity of a Lyerly man who lost his life in a house fire off of Highway 114 on Thursday evening. The victim has been identified as sixty-eight-year-old Danny Ray Millican. Sheriff Schrader said that deputies, firefighters and Redmond EMS were dispatched to Millican’s residence around 7:35 PM Thursday. The sheriff says that public safety personnel made very effort to rescue Millican, but were unable to do so. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Dry Valley Baptist Church, Wayside Baptist Church and North Summerville Baptist Church are joining together for a Sunrise Service. The service will be held in the parking lot of North Summerville Baptist Church Sunday morning at 7:00 AM. Coffee and pastry will be available. Everyone is invited to attend this joint service.

A person lost their life in a house fire on Ragland Road in Lyerly on Thursday evening. The Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office released the following statement:
The Dade County Sheriff’s Office is looking for information from the public about an ATV that was stolen in the Head River Community of Cloudland last week. The Cub Cadet “side-by-side” was stolen and sheriff’s investigators believe the theft could be connected to theft of another off-road vehicle at another location. The deadline to file your tax return is inching closer. Typically, today is the day that Federal income taxes would be due, but because of a holiday in the District of Columbia, tax day will be on Monday, April 18th.
