Lookout Mountain CASA Drop-In-Trainings

During  the month of April for child abuse awareness month, Lookout Mountain CASA is offering drop in trainings regardless of completed application status. If you are interested, the training is in person at 901 North Main Street, Lafayette, GA  on Mon, Tues, Thurs 10- 1 or 1:30 – 4pm. This drop in training is only for the month of April,  we can do an initial training, regardless of application status.

Georgia Highlands College (GHC) and Piedmont University have partnered to establish a pathway for students to earn an associate’s, bachelor’s, and master’s in just five years between the two colleges.

Chattooga BOE Public Meeting

Pursuant to section 2001 (i)(2) of the ARP Act, the Chattooga County Board of Education will take public input on its “ARP ESSER 6-month plan review” for the 2022-2023 school year.  The purpose of this input is to help determine if any revisions to the plan are necessary at this time.  The meeting will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at the Chattooga County Education Center, located at 206 Penn Street in Summerville, Georgia.

Members of the Georgia General Assembly returned to the State Capitol for our last full week of the 2022 legislative session on Monday, March 28, 2022. My colleagues and I spent time both in the House Chamber and in our respective committees this week, resulting in several key votes on House and Senate legislation on the House floor. With the end of session drawing near, this was undoubtedly our busiest week yet as we worked tirelessly to ensure crucial legislation that serves the citizens of Georgia crossed the finish line before Legislative Day 40.

One Property Sells At Tax Auction Tuesday

Chattooga County Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton said that one property sold on the Chattooga County Courthouse steps on Tuesday.  Five properties were scheduled for the tax sale, but four of the five settled their delinquent tax bills before the sale.  The property that was sold was 1661 Back Penn Road (Map/Parcel T04–61) and had an opening bid of $1508.30 for unpaid taxes and fees for 2020 and 2021.  Georgia Title Source, LLC was the highest bidder at $41,000.00.

Chattooga Beekeepers will hold their monthly meeting April 12 at 7pm at the Ag Building, 40 Middle School Rd, Summerville.  The speaker will be Gary Rains, a seasoned beekeeper from NWGA Beekeepers, who will present a program on Hive Inspections.  Beekeepers, anyone contemplating bees, or friends of bees are welcome to attend.  There is no charge.
