

There was a lot of fanfare last year when the state of Georgia approved six licenses for medical marijuana manufacturers in the Peach State, but to date not one of the licenses has been issued.

On March 7th, Gordon County Sheriff’s Detectives participating in the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force initiated an investigation into the online activities of Charles Joshua Stephens, age 26, of Webb Drive, Calhoun, Georgia.

The Northwest Georgia Regional Commission will be holding their regular monthly meeting on Thursday at 11 AM at the Civic Center in Rome.

Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that on Wednesday, March 2nd, Robert Swearinger, 37, was convicted of Arson in the 1st Degree, Criminal Damage to Property, Aggravated Cruelty to Animals, and Family Violence. The offender was initially arrested in connection with a fire on Riverhaven Lane in Menlo (Cloudland) that occurred in August of 2021.

Chattooga County Sole Commissioner Blake Elsberry will hold a two public meetings this week on a proposed land development ordinance for the county. The meetings will be held on Thursday, March 17th at 2 PM and on Friday, March 18th at 10 AM at the Commissioner’s Office, located at 10102 Commerce Street in Summerville. The public is invited to attend these meetings. The commissioner plans to adopt a resolution to approve the ordinance at the meeting on Friday morning.
