Tornadoes can happen throughout the year, but peak tornado season begins in March and runs through May. These storms can affect all of Georgia, but trends show the northern half of our state is the most susceptible.

I was notified at 6:45 pm by our Sheriff that the person responsible for the social media post regarding Chattooga High School and Summerville Middle School has been identified and detained. We will continue with our original plan to have additional law enforcement on our campuses tomorrow.
Sheriff’s Office Investigators have identified the person behind the threats being spread on social media regarding SMS and CHS in the county school system. A juvenile has been detained and charged with Terroristic Threats and Acts and Disruption of public schools.
Tiffany Lawrence has announced her intentions to seek Seat Two, the Pennville District, on the Chattooga Board of Education. The seat is currently held by Brad Hayes, who announced earlier this week that he would not be seeking reelection. So far, she is the only candidate that has declared her intentions to seek the seat. Yesterday (Tuesday), Chattooga County Board of Education member Brad Hayes announced that he would not be seeking reelection to his seat on the board of education. Hayes represents Seat Two on the local board of education, representing the Pennville area. Already, at least one candidate has declared their intentions to qualify for the seat. Tiffany Lawrence told a local news blog that she plans to run for the seat. Lawrence is a cosmetologist and has children that attend Chattooga County Schools. Her announcement did not indicate if she would be qualifying as a Democrat or a Republican. Qualifying starts next week.
A recall of powdered infant formula is expanding to include a specialty formula for infants with certain dietary needs. Abbott Nutrition is now recalling one lot of Similac PM 60/40 in addition to select lots of Similac, Alimentum, and EleCare formulas manufactured in its Sturgis, Michigan, facility. The products are sold throughout the U.S. The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) is urging parents and caregivers of infants to check their powdered infant formula before using it.
It was a short week for legislators last week at the Gold Dome in Atlanta, but State Rep. Eddie Lumsden (R-Armuchee), who represents Chattooga and a large portion of Floyd County in the state house, says that it was a productive week. Law makers passed a bipartisan bill that will give greater care to pregnant women who are in Georgia’s prisons. Also, a bipartisan bill was passed that will expand Medicaid for patients with HIV.
