Investigators are processing evidence and sifting through the stolen retail property that was being traded from a storefront in West Rome. The proprietor of the store has been arrested and is being held in jail without bond for the thefts that extend into several jurisdictions.
Georgia gas prices continue to increase at the pump compared to a week ago. Georgia motorists are now paying an average price of $3.37 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline. Monday’s state average is 4 cents more than a week ago, 25 cents more than last month, and 89 cents more than this time last year.

The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) is urging parents and caregivers of infants to check their powdered infant formula before using it due to a recall of some products. The recall includes select lots of Similac®, Alimentum®, and EleCare® formulas manufactured by Abbott Nutrition in its Sturgis, Michigan, facility. The products are sold throughout the U.S.
In 2010, the Chattooga County School System made the decision to switch to a four-day school week in order to save money. The four-day school week remained in place until the 2019-2020 school year, when the Board of Education voted to go back to a five-day week.

Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry has said that he will be rebidding the current EMS contract that is held by Redmond EMS. As it stands, Redmond provides EMS service free to the county but that service will come to an end in August of this year under the current contract.
Both local school systems had another good report for total number of COVID-19 cases over the past week. The Trion City School System had no positive COVID-19 cases for the week of February 12-17. The county school system reported two cases at Chattooga High School; one case at Summerville Middle School and two cases at Leroy Massey Elementary. Menlo and Lyerly Elementary had no cases to report over the past week.
At last week’s Summerville City Council meeting, council members voted to join “Top of Georgia”, a 501-(c)(3) non-profit organization that was formed to promote economic development in Northwest Georgia.
