The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) is urging parents and caregivers of infants to check their powdered infant formula before using it due to a recall of some products. The recall includes select lots of Similac®, Alimentum®, and EleCare® formulas manufactured by Abbott Nutrition in its Sturgis, Michigan, facility. The products are sold throughout the U.S.
In 2010, the Chattooga County School System made the decision to switch to a four-day school week in order to save money. The four-day school week remained in place until the 2019-2020 school year, when the Board of Education voted to go back to a five-day week.
Attitudes about cigarette smoking have changed with time. What was once considered to be a common habit among adults in the United States has been recognized as a real health-risk and a contributing factor to an overall decline in tobacco smoker’s health.
Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry has said that he will be rebidding the current EMS contract that is held by Redmond EMS. As it stands, Redmond provides EMS service free to the county but that service will come to an end in August of this year under the current contract.
Both local school systems had another good report for total number of COVID-19 cases over the past week. The Trion City School System had no positive COVID-19 cases for the week of February 12-17. The county school system reported two cases at Chattooga High School; one case at Summerville Middle School and two cases at Leroy Massey Elementary. Menlo and Lyerly Elementary had no cases to report over the past week.
At last week’s Summerville City Council meeting, council members voted to join “Top of Georgia”, a 501-(c)(3) non-profit organization that was formed to promote economic development in Northwest Georgia.
At first glance, the current “Right to Farm” bill before the Georgia General Assembly appears to be protection for farmers who want to avoid law suites from urbanites who are moving to rural areas; but some opponents of the current legislation say that the changes to Georgia’s decades-old “Right to Farm” law is only a protection for large agri-business and offers little protection for small farmers and rural residents.
