State Rep. Eddie Lumsden released his weekly legislative report on Monday. Lumsden said that the legislature passed a bill to amend the state budget, due to the fact that Georgia saw almost $2 billion more in revenue last year than originally anticipated. Lumsden said that the extra funds will go towards the state’s aging infrastructure and workforce needs. The bill also looks to restore $383 million funding to the state’s educational system. For the past several days, the National Weather Service has been issuing “high fire danger” advisories for Northwest Georgia and Northeast Alabama – and for good reason. Low humidity and wind can combine to make for very dangerous conditions for outdoor fires to get out of control. That’s what happened in Cherokee County, Alabama on Monday.

Georgia gas prices continue to increase at the pump compared to a week ago. Georgia motorists are now paying an average price of $3.33 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline. Monday’s state average is 9 cents more than a week ago, 22 cents more than last month, and $1.01 more than this time last year.
The Chattooga County Democratic Party will meet on Monday, Feb 21 at 6pm. Mrs. Montine Anderson, age 89 of Trion, Georgia passed away Saturday, February 12, 2022 at the Oak View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
