Northwest Georgia DPH Not Offering Free Rapid Tests Or N-95 Masks

Last week a website went live that is offering Americans free COVID-19 rapid tests by ordering online.  Also, the government is planning on making free N-95 masks available to the public, but neither the rapid tests nor the masks will be available at the Chattooga County Health Department.

Couple Arrested For Animal & Child Cruelty

Two Floyd County residents have been arrested on three counts of cruelty to animals, 27 counts of aggravated cruelty to animals, and three counts of 1st-degree cruelty to children.

Local School Systems Report COVID Cases

On Friday, both local school systems released reports on the number of students and staff who have tested positive for COVID over the past week.  Chattooga County Schools were reporting a total of 102 new COVID cases and Trion City Schools were reporting 25 cases.

Teloga VFD Names 2021 “Firefighter Of The Year”

The Teloga Volunteer Fire Department recently named the 2021 “Firefighter of the Year.”  The fire department presented a plaque to Joe Croy.  Croy joined the Teloga Volunteer Fire Department in 2019.  Since that time, he has scheduled time off work at his full-time job to attend the state fire academy in Forsyth, Georgia, only to have the class canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.  In 2021, Croy was able to go to class with the Menlo Fire Department and take his state test for certification.  The Teloga Volunteer Fire Department says that for the past two years, Croy has had the best attendance record for training and for responding to fire calls.  Congratulations to Joe Croy, the 2021 Teloga Volunteer Fire Department Firefighter of the Year.

Alabama Man Accused Of Buying Motorcycle In Northwest Georgia With Forged Check

Floyd County Police say that a Cherokee County, Alabama purchased a Harley Davidson motorcycle in May of last year with a forged check.  Leesburg, Alabama resident, forty-six-year-old Adam Lee Maroney is accused of purchasing the used motorcycle at Complete Cycles in Floyd County on May 22, 2021.  Police say that he used someone else’s check to make the purchases.  He then returned to the business and said that the funds were not in the account to cover the purchase and promised to return with cash.  Floyd County Police say that Maroney never returned with cash and never returned the motorcycle.  Maroney was charged with theft and forgery last week and was being held in the Floyd County Jail on a $10,001 bond.
